So what are you thinking the tank will house this time?

( be careful, once you have 2 tanks the 3rd one gets easier, then the 4th and soon your friends ask if you are setting up a LFS in your house )

Not to mention all the pseudo nano tanks that spring up as frag tanks,
QT tanks, and just because it was a nice holding place for now tank,
which turned into I haven't taken it down for a year tank  )
Oh and that project tank and that doesn't even cover the dream tank ...

Whatever you are planning I wish you and the tank the best!

NanoGurl - Off to a great start. If you go with the G3 I'd say you will love it. Do the mesh mod for sure. I dont know how happy I'll be without it. The T5's are tricky. I have a 6 bulb set-up on my tank, and not satisfied with it. Look into dual 175w Mh's or 250's with T5's for supplementation. Good Luck! Can wait to see the tank when you are done with it. :D

Didn't you just finish a corner tank not too long ago...talk about being bit by the bug.

I'm selling my 54 and breaking it down. I decided to focus more on my gliders instead cuz I want to buy a very expensive one so I needed to raise some funds. I am going to put my eel in the 75 me and my bf are doing together so at least I will get to keep him.

This way I get my new glider, keep my eel, and have fun setting up a new tank. Life is good :)

LoL. How many tanks do you have???

Okay, well we've had a bunch of tanks before.. 90g, 72g, 54g, and 20g tank. I'm already crazy :)

The plan was to break down everything and put them into a 120g so we only had one tank.. but we don't want to do that one until we move. So we decided to get a 75 now cuz it was a good deal for what we got so it made sense. I'm selling off what won't fit in the new tank and we'll just keep this one going for now and when we get the 120 use the 75 for a frag tank or like you said something cool that won't work in the main tank.

Umm.. so far the only thing I am keeping is my zebra eel. He will go into the 75. We're taking zoas, shrooms, rics, frogspawns and a birdsnest from the other tank and putting it into the 75. Maybe then buy a few more SPS or other things.. like to get some wild looking rics and zoas and shrooms.. nothing fancy, just colorful and interesting for now. We're also transferring over a pair of ora black clowns. They are just too cute and friendly to sell.

Yea, I'm thinking that too now. Maybe 250 x 2 plus 54w x 2 in a canopy. I can get the AGA one for like $120. Just might have to do that.

Thanks! Me too lol.

I have a retro T5 kit from reefgeek. On my next tank (not the one coming in this weekend :) ) I will do Metal Halides and use the T5's as supplements. I am not too crazy about T5's either. I have the nice setup with individual IceCap reflectors too. They are bright though and you have to be very careful with them. I totally bleached a maze brain and it was on the bottom of the tank. It was solid white and it looked like it was dead but I moved it to my sump under PC's and it has regained color.

Sorry to hear about your coral. Thank you for that information it was very helpful. I think I will follow suit and go with MH.

I second the MHs.......I just got mine about a month ago after running PCs for a long time, and the difference is like night and day (Pardon da pun)

Yea, we've always run MH's on our tanks before, but never been able to capture the pretty colors of like our zoas before. Even a simple LED nightlight gives off mor color then the 14ks we've been running previously.

That is why I was considering T5's.

$120 for the canopy? Great price especially if you can get it local. Saves you money on ship:D.

The combo you have in mind is perfect. Get some 10k bulbs to get the most PAR in the tank. The Giesmann Actinic+ give that nice melow blue that makes colors jump. The Pure Actinic get washed out a bit when using MH's.

You can push for (4) T5's if you can make them fit. Here is a hint to help you get started on ideas. A single T5 retro is 2.5'' wide. I dont think lenth should be a problem or height. Well if you need that information let me know.

Yea, the AGA canopy is okay, but cheap. I don't think I can use it now bc the MH fixtures I was gonna use would only be about 2" at most off the water in it. So I would have to cut a hole in the canopy and raise the lights. I really do want the T5's though.

Thanks for the input :) If/when I get the T5's I will take your advice and get the Giesmann.

Looks a lot like my setup ;) I use the 6-54w TEK T5 fixture over my tank and i'll tell you one thing, its freakin bright! I went from a 250w MH pendant to this T5 fixture and burnt a lot of my corals unfortunately. I have one side of my 75gal shaded with gutterguard and thats the side I keep my zoas on, and also where i start new corals out to acclimate to this intense light. Once SPS are acclimated they grow so fast! The thing i love about T5s are all the combos you can use to get exactly the color you want from your corals. All my corals seem to grow more quickly under T5s versus the MH as well.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks!

Good info. I'm really torn on how I feel about everything, see below for info. I may eventually goto the T5's as I think it would be fun to play around with.. never had any.

Update!

Well, we decided to go ahead and make a sump out of a 29g tank we already had. A 30g would have given us 6 more inches, but since we already had the 29 we'll just use that. Got the baffles cut at a glass shop and picked them up today, so we'll be putting together the sump later tonight and i'll update photos as well.

We also decided to just stick with the MH lighting for now. I already have two 150w MH fixtures, so we'll try them and see how it looks. I ordered to 14k Phoenix bulbs for them to try and get more blue since we won't have any accent lighting. That was my biggest problem with just doing MH. If we like the way this looks, we may upgrade to the 250w later on. The bulbs should be here friday.

I also ordered a ASM G3 skimmer for the tank. It should be here hopefully on Friday as well. I will try and update the thread tonight with photos of the sump. Wish me luck!

Sump on!

Didn't get a chance to work on the sump tonight, might be upgrading so I will have to wait and see until tomorrow.

But I did see my clown trying to host with my brain tonight.. she's been all over looking for something to live in the last few days. Guess I have to hurry up and get the 75 going and get her an anemone :)
