Sorry to hear that :(

Thanks for the info, that's very helpful. I think we might get one for something else to watch in the tank.

So they are constantly swimming around?

Mine is out in the open pretty much all the time, but he can also be really shy around random people and fast movement. But if he's not cruising the tank, he likes to get in some good flow and surf.

How do you keep your sand so clean? I am having a hard time between getting enough flow and my LPS getting upset...I have been thinking about putting my diamond goby but was worried it would dump all the sand on my blastos.

NG, I am thinking about the D40. Why the Canon? I've heard very good things about Nikon. Availablty of parts are greater (according to Wolf camera) for the Nikon than the Canon. I'm about to pull the trigger on a camera but my lack of knowledge is holding me back! Sorry for the ?s!

Hey NanoGurl, my doctors office has a 180 and has a foxface and a blue hippo tang, both fish get along great, always swimming around and looking for food. The tank has all softies, plenty of mushrooms but no zoos.

The foxface is very inquisitive when people come over to look at the tank. I think they are pretty cool looking, but because they are poisonous I passed on getting one.

Why Canon?

Spleen

I've been told by a lot of people that have cannons that the picture is superior, as well as larger lense selection. I've never had a cannon before (except 2MP small one) and wasn't overly impressed with Nikon this time around which is what I've always had previously.

I'm a Nikon Gurl =) But next time I'm going Cannon to see for myself. I would not buy the D50 a second time.

I think you will be just fine with the D40. Nikon is a good brand of camera, there is no doubt about that.

There are certain things that I don't like about the Nikon D50 that either may be fixed in the D40, or options you'd never use nor care too much about. It's a good "entry level" DSR.

Some of that may also be avoided by just buying the D40 body and a better seperate lense.

Don't get too caught up in the Mega Pixel hype. Unless you're going to print photos on a home printer you're not really going to utilize most of that function online.

I am going Canon next time around. They are great cameras. I have a couple friends in photography and they both have canons.

Both Canon and Nikon make some fantastic cameras. I believe it is strictly a matter of preference, like BMW vs. Mercedes. Each make has its die hard group of followers.

If the camera body is sound, I believe it is the lens that makes most of the difference, anyhow. This is why some Canon (just as an example) 50mm lenses cost $75 when others cost over $1300.

The number of professional photographers that use Canon vs. Nikon are pretty similar so interpret that however you wish. It's a personal decision as to which you feel more comfortable with so whichever floats your boat is really the right decision. People take amazing photos with either brand. I use Nikon SLRs/DSLRs but I use Canon for my point & shoot digitals so I guess I have a split personality.

And remember, most of us never really fully utilize the cameras that we own - what usually holds us back is our photographic ability. A good photographer would be able to take striking photos with a pinhole camera ;)

If anybody wants to read more about Nikon vs. Canon (which is a flame war issue on some photography message boards), this might be an interesting comparison - admittedly, it's written by a pro Nikon photographer but the points that he makes are very good and even he admits that both brands take excellent photographs and a lot of it is personal preference. And that's the last of that I'll talk about here, LOL

Spleen

I have a foxface in my 75g and love it. He doesnt mess with any of the corals and LOVES to eat. He actually eats out of my hand. I wouldnt be too worried about the poisonous spines - They are only used defensively and I have read that the sting is like a bee sting (unless your alergic of course :eek2: ) BTW whenever my hand is in the tank he makes sure he is nowhere neear it (unless I have food) :D
