Holy schnikes. I've had a 5.5 gallon running at work for over two years now, but it doesn't have any kind of gems like those... I'm keeping zoas, capnella, xenia, mushrooms, Elkhorn Monti, etc. under 40W of screw in PC 50/50's. I basically do a water change weekly (in theory), sometimes from my main display and sometimes from new salt water. I run a small HOB with standard run of the mill filterfloss and carbon (10/20, I think) and a small powerhead pointed at the glass in the back for flow. I've got a gramma and a pseudo chromis. Wow...

Thanks. It's a 24 gallon Aquapod. I was doing water changes out of my main tank and wondered if others were doing something similar. LPS and zoanthids aren't nearly as demanding as the SPS, and it helps recycle the water a bit. No skimmer worries me, though, as does not form of aeration other than surface skimming. The fish are en-route.

My girlfriend has a 12 gallon Nanocube, and she had some fish die from what I believe was a lack of oxygen. She always seems to, against my counsel, over-fill her tank until she's not surface skimming anymore though.

Wow, now THAT'S a nice nano! I'm sure that the water from your reef still has lots of "life" left in it for the nano. So, Dave, I have to ask, what kind of fish are on the way?!
I have a 12-gallon cube (won at the ETRC meeting on my Birthday 2 years ago). It's currently in my mother's office with 2 "Fishboy" clowns, a yellow wrasse, and some soft corals (all frags from other tanks).
I do a 60% monthly WC with new water and replace the carbon/clean the sponges in the duetto filter. I ripped out the back filter compartment (the whole thing!) and added the Duetto and another powerhead. I like the extra few inches of depth that taking the back compartment out creates. I haven't added any life or really done anything other than regular maintenance since it was set up--just allowed the fish and corals to grow...

I'm not running skimmer on mine, but run a surface skimmer for better oxygen exchange. I run surface skimmers on all my tanks (be it overflows or the $12 surface skimmers). There are noticeabe issues without the surface skimmer...
On Jenn's 20L, we run a CPR bakpak with very little efficiency... We do a five gallon water change biweekly and run a Magnum 250 with a Maxijet 600. It had several LPS and a bunch of softies with a cinnamon clown and a bi color blenny (loves to munch on the coral...).
Let me know when you're ready to 'thin' it out

BTW, I wanted to thank you again for the help in the move, Sunday. I know it was more than you signed up for, but it made everything much easier... I am going to search through the plumbing parts to look for the Tunze magnet tomorrow and will let you know what I find. The sinus infection has had me down for the last several days...

No, but I had the bottom glass on one crack after being filled with water for about 3 weeks on me. All the corals lived, the fish did not. I think the base had a defect, and the stress just caused it to crack one day. CR was very good about working with me and the mfgr. and promptly replacing it with a new unit. I've also read where others have had problems with leaks and recommend filling w/ water and letting set for a few days to check for leaks first (which I did).

Sorry to hear that. The way they have everything all rolled into one unit makes them a pretty cool package. That is also an ingenious way to do a water change , using your tank water. Good luck with it. Looks great , can't wait to see pics of it after 6 months or so.
