Nanostream 6025 only spins backwards

My GFCI tripped last night, and this morning when I woke up I couldn't get my 6025 working.

I've been playing around with it since I got home from work, and for some reason it will only spin backwards (drawing water in from the outlet). I did the wide flow mod (at least a year ago), so it does not stop itself if it starts in reverse. But it's never been a problem, I usually can just put my hand over the outlet, and it would correct itself. Now it does not spin unless it is spinning in reverse.

Hope that makes sense.

What i typically see cause a tripped GFI and backwards spinning is that the drive unit has a build up of sand and lime where it spins on the shaft. Clean the shaft, it should not be removed or come out so you have to use vinegar and an 1/4" tube brush is ideal. Clean the hole in the drive unit, for this use vinegar and a pipe cleaner. The GFI trips because the pump overheats and shuts off causing a difference in the hot and neutral when this internal breaker trips.

Thanks for the response.

I was thinking of giving it a good vinegar soak & clean to see if that helps.

We'll see if that helps.

Just be sure to remove the drive unit so the vinegar can get into all the parts and soak the drive unit seperately.

Cleaned it, no luck, but something that caught my eye from your response.

The shaft comes out very easily. If I remove the drive unit, the shaft will either come out with it, or fall out very easily.

My first thought was that the bushing (part # 6025.740) was missing, but I'm not sure if it is or not. Should that part be in the hole the the shaft sits in? Or on the drive unit itself?

The disk sits at the base of the shaft, but it does not hold the shaft in place. Send in the pump for repair.

Thanks for the response.

I've been contemplating upgrading anyway as I've upgraded to a larger tank. All I would need would be the 6045 motor block & prop housing, correct? From what I can tell looking at the parts on the Tunze site, the drive unit, protective grate & mount are the same.

Thanks

This is true, but if it is an older 6025 with a drive unit that has a white plastic shaft and base you will want to upgrade the drive unit as well. The new ones are grey.
