Hey, I'm 14, and I'm setting up my first reef tank... I've gotten the size narrowed down-(75) but that's about it! I want to stock it over time with the following, will this work?,
2 Clownfish
1 Royal Gramma
1 Firefish
1 Green Mandarin
1 Yellow Tang
1 Coral Beauty Angelfish
1 Flame Angelfish
I plan on having some softies (Xenia, Zoas, Mushrooms)
And maybe a few montiporas... I was just wondering if that would be a heavy bioload? I am on a budget, (I'm 14) so I'll buy an setup of craigslist... what order should i stock it?,
Thanks,

Prosper

That's fine, although you might want to limit it to just one angelfish and pass on the tang. A 75 gallon tank is just not big enough for that fish long term IMO. You might want to think about adding a wrasse or perhaps a few chromis instead.

I was thinking about that, but that's my number 1 fish, I will drop the flame angel, I plan to go to a 5' 120 long as soon as I get the money. And If the tang gets to big before I can afford it... I'll give it back to the store... how long do you think I would have?

A 75 is not really big enough for any amount of time unless it is a very small YT.

+1
Plan for the tank you have now not what you will have in the future.
Just buy the yellow tang when you get the 120, problem solved.
Or just wait until you have the money for a 120 and buy that instead of the 75

Good luck!

Ok, but is it worth just jumping up to a much larger tank like a 180 right off the bat then??

If you have the space and resources, get the biggest tank you can afford (and of course your floor will hold.). Bigger tanks offer more opportunity and are more forgiving on mistakes.

You've changed your mind countless times on a couple threads already about what tank you're getting. I wouldn't bet money you get your upgrade. A 14 year old on a budget wanting to do a reef tank, but already talking upgrade before buying your first tank. To me, not a recipe for success. If you want bigger, buy bigger. If you can't afford it, stick to what you can, and stock it with fish that fit. Fast way out of this hobby is cutting corners and dealing with the blowback of that.

Skip the tang, and one angel. Though either Angel may eat your softies. And will you be adding a refugium to grow pods for the mandarin, that fish should go in last, 6-12 months after the tank is started.

yes, I will be doing a refugim... I think I'm gonna pass on the mandarin though, unless I can get one that eats food (like mysis)

You should get the biggest that you can afford now. Remember though that bigger means more cost involved with lights, pumps, powerheads, rock etc. I'm not sure where you will be getting such money at 14 but you also have to consider monthly maintenance cost and reserve funds if something on the tank fails such as a pump, light, heater, powerhead.
