Narrowly Averted Disaster

I stayed home this morning to get my daughter to school and take the wife to an appointment, and my daughter comes and tells me that my aquarium is making an annoying noise!!!

When I went down stairs to look, the water level was over the top of the durso, and starting to leak over the rim of the tank!

I immediately unplugged my returm pump, shove my hand into the return area, and my tiger cucumber had crawled up and into the return and was almost covering the return.

Thank god for sirreal63 and his matting that I glued on the return for a screen. I had about 4 extra gallons of water in the sump after the level had dropped, and the RO/DI unit started up. It dropped my salinity a bit, but thankfully enough not enough to do damage.

All should be well. My question is what can I do to prevent the cucumber from crawling into the return?

good to see you caught it. or your daughter caught it.

I had no idea cucumbers crawled up there. Mine rarely moves from his little area.

I was actually thinking about getting a 2nd one. But now I've changed my mind.

Cucumbers are excellent if pealed, sliced and soaked in vinegar for a few hours. Add some salt and enjoy.

It is a good thing you caught it before your auto (disaster) topoff killed everything. One reason I don't have one...I can do without automatic disasters from an auto topoff.

ha that same thihng happened to me, except on christmass eve.

my tank is located above my parents bed, so they were unhappy when they woke up with watewr dripping on them :)

Glad you avoided th danger. Use some egg grate to keep him out. There are many ways to do it. I think the creative thing to do is build a cage of egg grate and then silicone it to the piping.

Howard,

She deserves a bump in her allowance. :)

I'm glad everything worked out.
