I have a 150g mixed reef with a 3inch sailfin tang that has been in the tank for about a year. I have been battling dictyota for about a year now and was wanting to invest in a naso tang to keep it under control. but I fear the two tangs wont mingle well. Anyone out there have any luck with keeping these two fishes together in same tank?

Absolutely the sailfin and naso can be housed together, in a huge tank. Sorry to say a 150 won't cut it for a naso period, and the sailfin for only a short time.

What is the footprint of the 150? I ask this because I used to have a 150 that was only 4' long. If this is the case, then I'd say neither should be in it. If it's a 6' 150, the sailfin would be ok for awhile.

+1 I have a friend that had both together without issue.... but wouldn't suggest it in a 150 atleast not long term.

you have had your sailfin for a year and its still only 3''? It should be growing a lot more than that.

I got a JV Desjardini 2 months ago and it was about 2.5'' and is about 4'' now. I dont see how one of these fish could only be 3'' after a year.

Both of these fish will get huge and a 150 isnt going to house either in the long term, especially the naso. I personally dont think this genus belongs in any but a huge tank and would pass on this fish.

Thnx for the input guys. The tank size is 6' long 18" deep and 29" tall. The size on my sailfin is a rough estimate but he was very small when i got him also. He is maybe 3-4 inches. Was just trying to figure out a way to control my dictyota problem really but didnt want to buy a long spine urchin because I love my coraline lol. Maybe I can buy a naso just for a short term to see how well he mows the dictyota down then see which tang needs to go.

It's not a matter of 'which tang needs to go' because the naso should never be in a tank that is only 18" wide. The sailfin MAY be ok for a bit, but not for long. I agree, it should be MUCH MUCH bigger than it is. What do you feed and how often? Think of it this way, your tank is 18" front to back and the sailfin will get to be 16".

The tang now gets fed spirulina, super veggie green seaweed on a clip once a day, fresh macro from the fuge. And whatever he wants to eat from the mysis and brine I feed my other fish. He has always been a very hardy eater.

Maybe I will go with a sea hare or 2 barred rabbitfish to battle the algae problem I have. Thnx abunch for the input.

Don't get the Naso, and 2-bar rabbit gets 10" or more.
Try feeding new life spectrum pellets, all my fish love them.

you would be amazed how a (getting) full sized sailfin can start to look cramped in even a big tank...

This one is in my 10' 750 gallon.. He can span that tank in less than 2 seconds...
