Naso Murder

Well, I have about a 4" Yellow Tang, maybe a bit smaller. I've been wanting a Naso....so I made a trip to my LFS. Instead of a bigger one they has a small Naso, maybe 2". I pulled the trigger, since they were different "species" and I thought it would be nice to watch the Naso grow. Well.....the Yellow and the FoxFace both harassed the **** outta him for like 2-3 days. The FoxFace stopped, but the Yellow continued. He didn't eat and was always backed in a rock corner. Needless to say.....he succumbed to the stress of the harassment, stabbing and starvation didn't help. I tried to put him a QT tank, but it was too late.

My dilemma is, I still want a Naso. Next plan....and this is where I want advise on whether I'm a dipshit and should leave it alone.

I plan to buy another Naso "bigger" than the Yellow, put him in the QT for at least a week and then drop him in the tank in a isolation tank (small 1 gallon tank) for a couple days until it seems to be clear to go hot and let him loose.

Thoughts?

Sell the yellow - Buy another yellow and a Naso and introduce them at the same time.

And watch your language - They don't cotton to that round here.

Is this in your 150 gallon? Too small for any Naso sp tang anyway.

Yellow tangs can be quite nasty, ime, especially to larger similar shaped fishes. I would keep the yellow tang if you like him, but it will be difficult to add other tangs.

Buy the naso, get him in QT. Whilst there, set up a holding tank for the yellow and remove him from the DT. Once QT is over, put the naso in the DT followed by reintroducing the yellow a couple of weeks after. Whilst the yellow is out of the DT, rearrange the brickwork a bit.

Hey presto, the yellow is the new fish in a new tank :)

All that said, if it is a 150 then it's a bit small for a naso...

Solution... Buy a 300g and introduce the naso first 😉

I had an aggressive vlamingi that died while I had my 5 inch naso in qt i was planning all my fish around him he died along with a fox face a diamond goby and oriental sweetlips due to a herbtana od :( I've had them all for over a year but I wiped my tears and finally I went and brought a powder brown, tomini, sailfin ,fox face , long nose hawk a few clown gobys and some sailfin goby everybody except the powder brown made it to the main tank after 3 weeks in at they are eating like a champ and getting along amazingly!!
Trade your range and introduce all your fish at once

Naso is not an easy fish to keep in my view. They often refuse to eat and are quite docile thus suceptible to aggression. You really need one to be bigger than other tangs; which in turn creates tank size problems.
