Naso - Need Help

See the red bumps behind the naso's lips? Just curious if anyone has seen this before. Have not had any luck trying to identify it. It acts kind of like a pimple. I see a bump, then it eventually pokes through the skin, it falls off and then it starts over again.

He doesn't act like he's sick, eats like a pig, eats out of my hand and is colored really well. It's been going on for about 3 months now.

Never seen anything like that before. For lack of a better way to ask this; does it seem like a worm coming thru his skin?

No... It looks like a pink rock. If I grabbed the fish, I could probably pluck it off, but I don't know what good that would do since it comes back. When it falls off, the skin heals up and then it starts again. It's about a 2 week process from beginning to end.

BUT.. I lost $5,000 of fish, including 3 Cross Hatch Triggers from Nematodes (round worms) about 2 months ago. But this is not what they looked like. They were more like spaghetti and very thin.

May (or may not) help, and you would have to QT but... Have you considered trying a broad spectrum antibiotic to knock this out? Furan-2 or Kanaplex or even just erythromycin.

Wow, so sorry to hear this. :( Were you able to save any? If so, what treatment did you use? I've reading conflicting things on the effectiveness of Prazipro when it comes to roundworms.

The survivors were Leopard Wrasse, Naso, File Fish, 2 Lyretails and a small goby. I got the nematodes from raw seafood from the deli that I chopped up and put in my tank. The worms caused a bacterial infection and the infection is what actually killed the fish. The worms would have killed the fish off in the long run, but it was initially the infection that got them.

When the pimples fall off and come back, do they return worse than before? Is it spreading?

On the subject of round worms from raw seafood... Would freezing prior to feeding prevent this in the future? Sorry to hear about your losses, that's rough :(

Yes, freezing would have prevented it. I froze my fish and sent them to a marine biologist in Florida and she was the one diagnosed the situation for me. I would have never figured it out myself.

It doesn't get worse. It's the same spots.

Tagging along.

I haven't seen the pink spots before, but have encountered lymphocytosis on a few fish in the past. Most recently was a Blue-spotted grouper who developed some lesions near the mouth. This turned into some secondary bacterial infections (white lesions and scale loss), which I managed to get under control with antibiotics, but I didn't manage to save the fish.

Your Naso is a beaut and looks healthy otherwise.

Does the marine biologist have any opinion on the matter? Be curious to see what it is.

A friend who is a marine biologist thinks it could be Herpes... and NO, I did not give my fish Herpes. haha

I haven't hit her up about it. She spent so much of her time with my other issue, I really didn't want to bother her with it. I was hoping someone here would know what it is.
