Naso problem

Hi, my Naso Tang has been getting these big bumps over his left eye, he is in my reef tank, the first time he got this bump I treated him with melafix and pimafix, the bump swelled till it burst and then started to heal, leaving a small scar above his eye, now there is another "similar" lump right next to the one that was therere previously, this one is closer towards the forehead, what can this be and what could this be causing it, is this some kind of tumor. The bump has these real small white spike looking things in it "look like parasites", the treatment worked for the first lump, but my Corals where not very happy with the medication, so I wantto avoid using it again if I have to, I don't have a sick tank for him, and he is hard to catch anyways with all the rock work, what can and should I do, thanks again.:( here is a picture of the scar the first lump left behind,

I'd make sure it's not the beginning of HLLE. My Naso started that same thing but turned out to be some type of infection, I caught it in time before any real damage started to occur, I used PraziPro untill it was gone, it takes a week or so but he's been fine ever since, I would just make sure to keep an eye on him to make sure he keeps eating.

here is a picture of the condition, the small scar next to the bump was left by the same type of bump he got the first time, I believe it's ich,

it's not ich, if that's what you meant..it looks like the beginning of HLLE....i would start feeding that tang some vitamins with it's food..naso's need brown nori in their diet...also, a water change could help if the water is the problem

what is HILLE and what does it do, and how do you get rid of it "besides feeding him vitamins" his problem is he only likes to eat brine shrimp, is this HILE a parasite, can other fish get it, thanks again.

Head and Lateral Line Erosion...it can be caused by lack of nutrition or poor water quality..in this case , it sounds like nutrition..brine shrimp has no nutritional value for the fish..don't confuse a fat fish that is eating, with being a healthy fish...this fish needs tons of veggie based foods in its diet...mysis once a week can be ok for a treat, but it needs nori as its main diet..you don't want to only feed nori..it should be supplemented with other herbivore foods..Formula 2 and Spirulina are a good start..it definately needs to be supplemented with Zoe and Zoecon(or Selcon)..

I do give them spirulina, but he does not eat it, this fish is driving me up the wall, the hippo tang and my clowns devour the food, he just swims by it, but when I throw in some brine shrimp he devours it, this is perplexing to me.

naso's can be a pain to get on a good diet!!! have you tried the nori???? try soaking some in some garlic extract and see if it helps..also, the vitamin B12 in Zoecon can help stimulate the appetite!!

Feed frozen HUFA enriched mysids and HUFA enriched brineshrimp along with unflavored uncooked nori. That fish needs heavier feedings. Make sure it has plenty of unobstructed room so it can swim around freely. Every Asian market carries nori.

I just might have found a solution, I just got some fresh garlic, a few clovers, put it in a blender with some Spirulina flake food, blended it well, then I put it in a cup added some brine shrimp and spirulina and let it sit for a few minutes, then added it to my tank, not only did the Naso go nuts but so did my corals, especially my hammers, the Naso went for the brine shrimp first, and in it's feeding frenzy also ate some Spirulina, will get some Nori when I get the chance, in the meantime I hope this helps allitle, maybe the garlic will help with the infection.

i would stray away from the brine shrimp all together...it only fills the fish's stomach..it does nothing for the fish and is not nutritional...mysis are ok on time to time basis..this fish mainly needs the nori and spirulina in its diet..try to find some brown nori for it...the lfs or asian food stores should carry it

well the Garlic has made the infection swell, and it lookes like it is ready to burst, which I hope is a good thing, looks like a pimple ready to exlode.

you gave it a garlic bath????? you really need to try to catch this fish and qt it..you will most likely have to dose some meds to keep that sore from getting infected

catch it, you must be kidding right, unless I break down the whole tank and stress out the rest of the inhabitants, it is not going to happen, I can try some Melafix and Pimafix which is coral safe, but they do not really like it, he still seems very hardy, will see how it goes in the next couple of days, and how the fish responds to this garlic thing.

i know catching them is extremely hard to do..if i have a problem, i try to catch them a little bit after i turn off the lights...i have had success using eggcrate to trap the fish on one end..i only have to move the rocks that are near the fish..how big is the tank???
watch it for a day or so..if it looks worse, i would definately remove the fish..i hope things take a turn for the better!!!

At first i thought hlle, but since the area is blister like and raised - I wonder if there isn't some kinda of parasite that burrowed under the skin.
