Naso Tang

Is there anyone out there with Naso Tang experiance. I recently bought one from the LFS. He is about 5-6 inches, and absolutely solid in body structure. No ribs showing, or bones otherwise. I have had him for about 5 days now nad have yet to see him eat. I have been feeding my other inhabitants the usual, brine, pellet etc. I have gone so far as to pull macro algae from my sump and clip it for him, to no avail. Nothing in the tank is picking on him and he is active and swimming all around. Still looking fat and healthy. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

I have a 6" Blond Naso in a 225 Reef for 2 years . He likes PE Mysis shrimp, Clams and formula 2. I also suplement his diet with dried seaweed on a clip. At first he didn't touch it, now he is ripping at it the moment the clip goes in the water. Is you tang being bothered by any tank mates?

Right now he shouldnt be cramped as there is plenty of room for him to swim being only 5 inches. The tank is not overloaded with obstructions. By the time he is even coming close to being cramped I will have finished my 175 bow front. I have tried a couple flavors of seaweed selects as well. Im bummed he's not eating yet, but he's not getting skinny yet either. Could he be picking at the rock at night? I would have thought he would hide and sleep as most tangs do during the evening hours.

my naso doesnt go to sleep and hide with my yellow i think he swims around at night. And mine picks at the rock and glass for algea. He also eats flakes and rods food wich has all sorts of stuff in it.

I would definitely get him some Nori sheets. Fold a piece and rubber band it to a rock and put it in the tank. We used to soak the Nori w/ Selcon (vitamin supplement). They are herbivores and need veggies. But, they will eat meat, too. Ours loves mysis shrimp.

I will have to try the Nori. I would have thought the macro being fresh and all would have done it, but maybe he is being skittish of the clip. I will try and band some of that and Nori to the LR. Thnx

When I introduced my Naso tang he would not eat from the clip. I had to rubberband the nori to a small rock and place it on the bottom. I think he was a little stressed by his own reflection in the glass. Once he started eating off the rock (2 weeks) he started eating off the clip. After exclusively eating nori for 10 months, he followed the lead of the other fish and tang and eats pellets also.

thats awesome!! Iactually just for the 1st time saw him gobble up some macro I pulled from my fuge, while doing a water change. maybe he is starting to come around. Its only been a week :-) gulp

Hope he makes it ! My yellow tang ( I know its not the same) didnt eat at first but kept trying different foods till he started eating something. He is now finally getting fatter but still wont touch Mysis.

Good luck to ya. Naso is a cool fish.

My 10" or Naso wouldn't eat at all for the firs week. He took the lead finally from my sailfin and started on nori but that was all he would eat. I ran out of nori and the Naso refused any and all frozen cubes, pellets or flakes. I decided to see if it would eventually eat anything else and after about a week he started joining in with everyone else. If your tang is seemingly healthy, my advice is to just keep feeding your normal foods and see if he will come around.
