Naso tang

Bought a 3.4 to 4" naso last week. It is eating the algae off the back glass and is not getting skinning, but it will not eat nori or any other food introduced to the tank.Any suggestions to get it to eat.

I've not had a great deal of success with the Naso frankly. Kept one for years without any problems in the last century, but recent individuals have proven tricky to get eating. I have a small one currently in my large refugium that I got eating by basically throwing the kitchen sink at it. Eventually it started and now eats everything.

Try shredding the nori in front of a power head and let it blow around . That is the only way mine would eat in the beginning.

Or rubberband the Nori to a small piece of rock. In the QT you can rubberband it to a small piece of PVC. IME, they are very stubborn. Keep working with him and have patience.

What species of naso? It's weird, I have a blonde naso and I think it is about the easiest fish I have had. Hardy, tough and peaceful(and tiny when he started). When I quarantined mine I fed him mostly mysis and cyclopeeze with a bit of spirulina. He never got nori until he hit the display tank ~5 weeks later. He's huge and fat now. Good luck!

Live brine will usually provoke an eating response. I finally got a solid specimen then it perished while my wife was watching the tanks.

my blonde naso (and yellow and hippo) love packaged seeweed from LFS. i attach to food clip and all three have at it. never tried nori. good luck.

It took my Naso few weeks to consider Nori. Try introducing Nori in different way. Attached to something like PVC pipe, shredded and soaked in water, etc. Feed sperulina brine shrimp in the meantime.

My Naso eats pretty much everything, Nori, frozen, pellets, and dry. It took him weeks or months to consider each type of food. He really like meaty frozen food, and seaweed extreme pellets.

I was 0 for 2 in my first tank with naso tangs. They'd pick algae off the glass and powerheads, but would never eat. Each lived for a few weeks and then died.
