Naso Tang

I just bought a 7" naso tang about three days ago from the LFS. I knew that he was eating because I was told and also saw him chewing down on some green seaweed on a clip. After acclimating him he went up to my clip multiple times looking for something. I put a slice of green algea in there and bam he tore it up!! But after trying other foods frozen and dry fomula 2 and other frozen veg formula he just looks at it and maybe will take a bite and spit it out. Any suggestions I know the selects are just supposed to be supplement not the main source of food? How much seaweed is to much or enough? He would eat it all day if I kept giving it to him!

Try soaking some of your other foods in garlic to entice a feeding responce. The fish go nuts over it. My tangs love myasis also.

if you have other fish in there eating the other foods as well your naso will learn that it is eatible and will soon chow down with the rest of its tankmates

tangs eat algae. let them eat algae. Definitely try to get him onto othern foods too, but dont be discouraged, hes eating whats good for him, be sure to keep algae in their. Something else to consider- a 7" Naso is way too big for a 110. I think you should look into finding it another home.

yes let him eat algea all day long. try soaking foods in garlic and give him time. the other fish will help convince him to eat the other stuff. But atleast he is eating.

soak the nori in a vit like selcon then wrap the nori up cigarette style and rubberband it horizontally to a small piece of LR, let that sit on the substrate and watch him eat all day long...

Thank you for all the responses. I bought some new foods along with garlic xtreme to soak with. Sounds like I should just keep trying other foods but stick with algea until he changes his mind? This might sound redundant but he keeps eyeing the clip after I have already given him two 3x4" slices of algea one in the morning one now, which he ate in less then 3 mins! I should just keep loading the clip? As far as finding him a new home he seems comfortable in my reef for now as I convince my wife in upgrading to a new system!

you can fold the seaweed up to make him work for it but at that size its not to surpirising that it can clean out the clip in such a short period of time. probably seaweed twice a day is good as he is only eating it right now. i feed it once per day

I have a small Naso (about 4") in my tank who loves nori (about 1 entire sheet a day) but also LOVES New Life Spectrum pellets. They (the pellets) are super good for your fish as well. Give them a try.
