Naso Tangs

Thanks for the reply and clearing that up. I just don't think I had ever seen a full size fish in an aquarium. That being said, as badly as I want a naso in my 215, I guess there are plenty of other options

Long ago, I used to keep a French. I feel they should be in a tank that is at least 30 inches tall but ideally 36 inches tall, and at least 96 (but preferably more) inches long and preferably at least 30 inches deep but preferably 36 inches. But they are a magnificent fish. If you have the appropriate tank, I recommend them. Your 96x30 will work but he will make that tank seem small. Ate out of my hand.

I agree with you. That's why I really would rather just wait until I can build a 120 x 36 x 30 for the french instead of just going out and get the 96 x 30 x 30 now. i do not want to go taller than 30" since I am not tall enough to deal with that height. My current 30" tall 225g is already hard enough for me to do aquascaping and maintenance.

Here you go. Tank is 400G, 7'L x 3'T x 2.5'D

My Approx 4 Yr old, 13" Vlamingi in my 400G. Got rid of him becaus he was getting too big.

My Naso at 4 yr's about 10"

The two at 4 years along with a sailfin.

My pair of naso's at about 6 years. male is 12" plus. This is looking down the 2.5' end of the tank.

yes they do get large even in our aquariums. Age of these fish is approx as I have no idea when they were born. This age is based off of time in capativity that is known.

Thanks Shellback. we spoke in another thread before where we exchanged our power outage experience. The french angel and pair of naso tangs are the biggest fish I have and I definitely have to find a better home for them 2-3 years from now. the male naso is 7.5" and female is 6". I expect them to exceed 10" within 2-3 years. The french, given its repuation of growing fast, is expected to reach that size within 2-3 years as well. in fact, it grew by half an inch in only 3 weeks. i wouldn't be surprised to see a 6-7" french in full adult coloration by the end of the year.

i'd really like to go with a 96" x 30" foot print if possible, but i'm worried that the 96" is too short for the nasos. a 120" long tank is going to cost a lot more than the 96" and i'd really like to avoid that. maybe a custom 108" long one? i guess i'll have to call to get some quotes.

Like Shellback, I traded my N.Vlamingii 4 months ago. He grew to 10-12" in my 400 and looked cramped half grown. Hated to trade him as he was a beautiful and gentle giant but I couldn't stand to see him stuck in a small box.

Thanks guys.

The fish are beautiful and the Naso is one of my all time favorite. At 12" for my male, he seemed OK in my 7' long 400G tank. I think the height and width helped him out as well and I tried to make sure he had swimming room. With the large Vlamangi and Sailfin, I felt it was getting cramped so that was why I got rid of them.

I wound up just giving them to a guy with a 1000G tank. Ever try and sell a big fish? It's not that easy, even at a decent price. That's why I just gave them away to a guy my LFS told me about.

I've got a friend, Reefski, who just sold his tank and so I'm trying to get his Naso to replace mine that died from a power outage.
