Nassarius snails out of water

My inverts are shipped "dry" (bag with a wet paper towel), but can't speak specifically for nassarius. I can't imagine it would be too much of an issue... but why not put it in a tank of cup water or something?

Nassarius have opercula that don't seal off the shell very well, so they don't have the resistance to "dry periods" that littorinids and nerites have. Thirty minutes isn't very long, though, so if it stayed moist it will most likely survive.

Cheers,

Don

Nassarius are 'slime coaters' that create their own nasty snot to protect them from drying out. Many of the nassarius feed at tidal intervals, and they 'slime up' to crawl around just beyond the foam fractionation zone where bits of cast off and dead floaters collect.
