Very hard to see what you've got in that pic. Quite likely its a Stomatella snail, excellent grazer which can reproduce in your tank. You can find a little more info on them and a pic in this article.

Stomatellas look like a snail with a tiny saddle instead of a shell. They have long antennae, move pretty fast for a snail, and breed by puffing spawn into the water, like a locomotive. They're neat creatures and good for your tank. I don't think you can buy them: they just turn up.

why are you sure that snails can live without shells...?

There have been instances where a snail leaves or is forced to leave its shell. Not an easy task for the snail, but in some cases the snail does survive. However without the protection of the shell the snail is very vulnerable to predation and in the wild woudnt last very long.

i believe it is a stomatella, the interesting thing is its jet black with a blue ring around the shell. the only ones i could find on any reef site are brown or some shade of it. curious?

not to doubt logic opinions, it does move fast
has a long snorkel but small sized antenna

It COULD be a chiton. A lot like a sowbug in shape, except the black mantle comes back over the shell and makes it look all frilly black and soft.

Third possibilty, a black velvet nudibranch, which is a shellless sea slug---the blue band made me think of that: vivid, vivid blue stripe. They won't hurt your reef, but will starve.

i was just looking at nudis and thats what it might be. only i cant find one that color, but i did find a couple that match the shape really well. i didnt think nudis move fast, though?
