Might be good practice to store mag float outside of tank and just put it on when you want to clean. Some aren't sealed very well and obviously magnet can rust if water gets in there. It'll destroy everything. Just a heads up. Just heard an instance of this through LFS, guy couldn't figure out what was wrong till it was too late.

i've seen so many people put little frags on their magfloats and stuff too, do you think it may have just been a defective one?? i don't wanna take it out

snail! i have a couple of these, they're pretty big compared to any of the other ones

the little green sticks are growing and multiplying! i was told it's a good sign :crazy1:

i think the little green sticks are a calcium based macro algae.

They can potentially grow out of hand.

I leave my mag floats in my tanks. People give grief when you can see them, but I just keep mine in one of the top rear corners. Once they crust over with coralline they're pretty hard to casually notice.

haha I know a lot of people leave em in. I don't even mind seeing them there. Could have been defective, could have just got old...just have heard 2 instances of this now. Thats enough for me. Just passing it on. :beer:

i'm loving it so far.... i'm supposed to change the water when the ammonia goes above 1 ppm, but mine hasn't so far, so i feel like i'm not really doing anything to the tank... i feel like it needs a water change soon though either way...

Where did you get that info? It does not sound right. I heard during a cycle the ammonia builds than a nitrite peak and then a nitrate peak and then the nitrates will come down.

Naughty, How are you doing that? I have the Nitrite spike right now. My ammonia just went down yesterday. Now I have to wait for the Nitrate to spike.
I do water changes like every other day, just trying to keep some numbers in line. Sounds like your cycle is going very easy.

Tampa bay Saltwater sends very explicit instructions on how to cure thier liverock. The reason to change the water when the Ammonia goes up just a little, is to maximize the survival of the infauna of the rock. They actually ship the rock in water, not just wet, so there is a little die off, but not the massive die off that usually occurs with online LR. Thus your cycle will be very short and small to maximize the life that survives.

That is what I ordered was Tampa Bay Saltwater. However, during the shipment that bag with the LR broke, so I had some of the rocks that were not covered in the water. That could be why I had a large ammonia spike, from the die off of the sponge.
Everyday it gets better.

awh dang that sucks that the bag broke!! i had a bit of leakage but nothing major, that's probably why my tank is doing so well. i haven't had my ammonia rise above .25 ppm and my nitrites hit 1 ppm one day and have been zero since then. nitrates are slowly building up i feel like, i haven't done any water changes yet and they're at about 10 ppm.
