'Nawlins frag drive

The damage there is massive, it literally leveled the city. It could be many years, if ever, before the aquarium is rebuilt.

In the meantime, what about selling those frags, unused equipment, ect., and donating the money towards the relief effort?

My dad and I are going to be selling our product's at a festival in Portsmouth, OH this weekend. The event is called River Days. We will be donating all procedes from our sales to the Katrina Relief fund.

We are having a nice posterboard made up as we speak. Hopefully some of the other participant's will see it and follow suit.

The name of our business is Duck's so if anyone happens to be there look us up.

"SEPT 1. PM UPDATE: There appears to be some question as to how well the aquarium is operating in the wake of the storm. Reportedly down to a skeleton staff and limited electricity, it is unclear as to the condition of the aquarium's residents. "

Im all for aquariums, and re-seeding projects etc... My initial response to this thread in giving my approval was based on the idea of things returning to normalcy soon. But the reality is that no one will be visiting this aquarium for a very long time. Animals will die, people have died, and this is only the start of what will likely be the most devastating natural disaster in the US. It is in my own opinion, a civil emergency and that means humans first. Our goodwill offer will stand however because one day, long from now a form of normalcy will return, and when it does we will then worry about the animals. For now the people should remain the priority.

Thank you Ron

Some of us, at least one of us, has a child who lost everything when they had to evacuate because she thought it was like all the other times. The girls (my daughter and 3 friends) took clothes for a couple of days and left. At this point we don't know when or if they will ever be able to go back and get their things, providing that anything survived.

This is college kids who have lost everything. Clothes, computers that they need for homework everything they have is in New Orleans. Now they are telling them to find another school and enroll as visiting students. But most colleges are only taking them if they actually lived in that state before hand and no schools here in west virginia have offered to accept any of them.

So yes we will donate to the aquarium it is a great idea. When the time comes, but that is far into the future. When the time comes I'll definately donate but now it is the people who need donations.

FEMA will not even let these kids file claims yet. Real Estate owner come first, then if there is any money left, the students can file. But they need things now to get back in school. Computers, books, clothes just about anything you can name.

Sorry, if anyone feels this post should not be here feel free to have it removed.

Sorry to hear about your daughter Mary. So many have lost so much. I found a website where you could post to offer housing to those left homeless by the hurricane. I have offered my 1 spare room to any single mother w/infants or small children that need it. If someone takes me up on the offer I'm hoping to get donations from local churches and such for bedding, clothing and food. Now to figure out what to do with all my junk in that room :~)

Looks as if we found her a school in Wilmington NC now to just find her a computer, we can handle the clothes situation I think. She told me she has some belts because she forgot to pack them. Then she says thank God at least I got out and I'm okay.

Lana,

We took your lead and offered up our attic to the victims of Katrina. It's not much but it's space for a couiple of people to live while they try to get there lives back together.

I have a hp desktop. It has Window Me now but I can upgrade it to Windows 2000 Pro is need be. I will be glad to give it and its monitor (17") to this kid. I want to help but giving money seems so hollow.

THANK YOU WAYNE. IT will be so greatly appreciated.

pm me your number and I will call you to work out the best way to get it to her.

I was going to DHL it, I have an account and get a good discount because I ship everything to them.

I have the computer in my car finally. I of course could not get away from work on time so I cannot get to Jo - Mars before 6:00pm. It is over an hour drive for me to get there from Logan. It is now 5:10pm.
I will try again tomorrow. At least it is loaded in the car now.

Does anyone have a cd burner for "ME"?

I dare not upgrade to win 2000 due to the monitor (17"crt). I had it on my other machine and when I upgraded to 2000 it would not work and had to be replaced.

We can't do much for everyone but we as a club can do this for this one kid trying to get on with her life.

I heard this story many years ago and it haunts me all the time.

There once was a terrible storm and thousand of Starfish washed up on the early morning beach. A man walked along and thought what a tragedy as the sun came out and started to kill the struggling creatures. In the distance he could see another man walking toward him. As the other man walked he tossed as many Starfish in the water as he could. When they got close enough the first man said "You can't make any difference, there are too many of them."
The other man picked up one lively but doomed starfish and as he threw it into the water he said.
"I made a difference to that one."

They both spent a long hard and wonderful day Making a difference to "One more at a time."

Thanks for the computer. MY daughter is getting settled in and said she will stop worrying about a computer, and get the reading done so she will be ready to do the reports when it arrives.

Thank You So Much For The Computer. She should have it by the weekend.

Yes, they closed UNC-W Monday and sent all on campus students else where so she is in Jacksonville and was fine when I talked to her a little while ago. They have not told them when classes will resume yet.

Seems this semester she is majoring in Evacuating from Hurricanes, instead of English. Anyway she is doing okay.

Thanks for asking.
