NC shows

Still here waiting on the raffles,, glad I only brought limited funds, some very nice pieces here..
That bubble tip in the middle is spectacular,, i will put a pic up tonight.....

We have 18 vendors (some with multiple tables) plus however many community sellers...sorry to hear that CrayolaViolence, we are the biggest show in the state and growing, though! We have to make sure we have enough attendance to warrant more vendors...or they will be disappointed in sales and not come again!

Thanks, guys, glad you had a good time and found some great deals! :) Look forward to the anemone pic!!!! There are some beautiful ones out today! :)

I know from experience that starting a show is extremely hard work. But with the right drive it will get bigger and better. expect the next couple years to be the sweet spot, where you get great corals for great deals and don't have to search hard. In 5-10 years you better be first and you better be quick to get the good deals.

PS. I would love to hook up with some of you NC fellows. Been out of the hobby for a while and am building a new 170 reefer. I will need some frags.

Well I definitely did my part in supporting it as I purchased three corals. Very nice ones as well as a clown fish. For some reason, I had in my head, it would be wall to wall vendors. Just my own overblown expectations. However, if a particular vender is back at your next show, I will most likely be there. This time I didn't have room for what I wanted to buy from them.

Ooo, let me know which one, I will be sure to send them a personal invite early on! :) I am so glad you found some nice things...we did used to have wall to wall vendors...but that was when we were in a much smaller space, lol! ;) We are in a "growth process" at the moment! :) Thanks again for all your support! :)

Thank you jmazzy! We have been doing ReefSMART for about 6 or 7 years now...we used to do two shows a year and they were much smaller then! We would love to work with you!

I love the new venue...plenty of space! Looking forward to next year already.

Got a gorgeous bubbletip, zoa covered rock and elegance coral...plus a maxima clam, some acans and a lot of other things. Everything is opening up and looking great - super healthy stock!

Glad it wasn't wall to wall as that building was small enough. LOL. I will say the door gifts for the early birds was *EXTREMELY* generous. That alone made paying the entry fee to get in worth it.
It was just a Looooooooong *** drive. And I don't travel well. I can't find their card right now but they were from Ohio. One local vendor told me the reason he didn't bring much (although he had awesome prices and I bought from him) was he didn't even know there was a show till the day before. Not real sure how to get the word out on this kind of thing. If there is a national reef club, has anyone considered printing a "show catalog" to send out to people or at least publish on the net. I used to do dog shows and getting the word out about shows was always a big thing. They also used to club shows like club XYZ would cover a 3 day weekend. Maybe you could even set up competitions with "show pieces" that people could vote on or judge or whatever. Competition can bring people out of the wood work. ;)

Just waking up from yesterday, 28 hour day for me,, had a ball though..
I only took $120 with me as I have a limited amount of room for stuff right now, (8" Pico) but I still bought a Toadstool(ReefFarm), a Duncan, Palythoa Grandis ,got another frag just cant remember what it is, waiting for it to open up..
You could have easily spend $1000 in a heartbeat, there were alot of nice pieces..
Won 2 tee-shirts, bottle of pods, got a free frag at the door, received a huge Hollywood Stunner (around 5") from The Reef Farm..
They gave out a bunch at the end for the ones how didnt win any of the livestock/coral drawings...
I took some pics of what I thought were the most spectacular pieces, I will post them and pics of my new frags up later today..

Good job on the show, cant wait till the next one..

Here are the two that turned out, not sure what happened with the rest..

Wilmington Reef Connection

Wilmington Reef Connection

Hi, my name is Kris and i am moving back home to Wilmington after 20 years of being in Houston . We have a pretty big Facebook group there and i been searching for one in the Wilmington area and have not came across any so i decided to make one. (Wilmington Reef Connection). If you are in the area of North and South Carolina please join.

Hey guys thanks for the support and business at ReefSMART, it was a fun time and nice meeting everyone. Grace and BJ puts in a lot of work to do this show every year and it's very much appreciated!

Hey james if u need help with the pics I can post the originals of those corals but it would have to be approved by a mod so I won't break any rules

Crayola it was nice meeting you and thanks for making the drive out. It's always worth it for me to drive from ohio to meet new faces and talk about corals. Hope your fully upgraded next year for some big pieces

CrayolaViolence - I hope you didn't mean the building we were in this year was small! :0 We drove cars through the walking path during set up! :)

Reef Hobbyist Magazine always runs a feature on which shows are running until their next issue. Sadly, there is only one active Reef Club in the state...and we already advertise with them. If anyone has any other advertising venues please share, we will absolutely check them out! Love the idea of a "show piece" competition!

The vendor that didn't know of the show until the day before was Pet Supermarket - I think my mass email got caught in spam for some people. :( We cannot usually accept vendors that late...as we have to pay for the tables and provide a floorplan...but we squeezed him in since he has attended so many previous shows!

The advertising we really need to work on is attendees...the vendors that come from far away need to have enough business to make the show worth coming.

Fintastic in Cary was very generous in their donations! They were responsible for the suprise free frags at the door...we are very grateful!

JamesHolt - Thank you so much for posting the pics! We were a bit understaffed this year (getting to be a usual thing) and we didn't have anyone able to take pictures the day of the show. :( Would it be alright to use your pics in advertising? They look great to me! :) Thank you so much for putting in such a long day at the show! :) So glad you are enjoying your pieces!

Aznnutty - Always a pleasure!!! As usual, I could hardly see your booth through the crowd of people around it...I know I will be seeing a lot of these beauties on cell phones as people show them off to me! I would love if you could send me any original pics you have of the corals you brought to the show...we are SO low on pics!

If anyone else out there has any pics from this show, PLEASE send them to reefsmartexpo@gmail.com we would love to use them!

Thank you for the Facebook recommendations, Kris! :)

Thank you to EVERYONE for making it such a great show...we really appreciate it! See you again next year (first Saturday of May) same time, same place! :)

Sorry I missed this show. I am pretty new to the hobby with my tank up just over a year and am not terribly connected. How do I get on a mailing list so I do not miss it next year. I am just down the road in GSO.

We don't have an attendee mailing list...it just now occurred to me this might be something people would want! Some of the other vendors may send out emails when the show comes up...I know The Reef Farm does. I will pm you with that info! If you are on Facebook you could "like" our page...that would give you updates as well! We should be having it on the first Saturday in May again next year...

No. I just expected more people and vendors. For some reason I had it in my head there would be dozens and dozens of people with booths and a much larger variety of stuff for sale. I guess I was basing my assumption off of the reef shows my LRS guy has attended and described. The quality of stock at this show was great. I just wish there had been more.

Puffyluv you are more than welcome to use them, I can send you pics of the frags I bought also if you wish..
If I had known you would need more pics I could have taken a lot more...
