Neal's Barebottom SPS & ZOA System...

Love that blue tenius. Used to have one just like it about 6 years ago. Was a maricultured piece.

No man I like the titles nothing wrong with them. I can see for sure how people would think you are farming them, I thought that. But then farming sps in a thank tank size, no its a display. A reef reflects the owners personality and interests, it is for your enjoyment. Your corals all look great so you are doing something right. Keep it up. I say do the 120g. I will take your current tank.

Pallobi can you take like some shots of the whole system like in lighted conditions?

you can see my gravity fed auto top off in the first pic on the left... also i will redoing the plumbing a bit this weekend to make it more clean looking and using the mag 9.5 and the mag 7 for the feeding of all units, the main display, the "fuge" and the carbon reactors... i will use multiple ball valves to direct the flow of each in proper direction with the proper flow to each... a good sunday afternoon project perhaps :)

Stocking Wishlist, a thought or two...

Stocking Wishlist, a thought or two...

was also thinking of a wish list and thought i would jot it down here as well, jus for the sake of sharing some stocking ideas...

i can comfortably fit 26 peices of sps in my display on the columns according to how i have them spaced out... I can also comfortably fit 18 frag plugs on the 2 racks i will utiliizing the display as well, as the third, has been removed... i put one rack at each end of the tank below the vortecs and closer to the front for good viewing, and to no longer obstruct light coming down the back wall of the tank...

but anyhow, some thoughts on what i would like to add, i have 38 peices now, but will be most likely removing one or two, so i amy have room for another 8 or so... but ehre are some thoughts...

hope to get these this weekend...

atl strawberry fields acro
atl forest fire digi
atl incredible hulk acro
tyree ponape birdnest

and some others i have thought of...

ora marshall islands blue bottlebrush acro
ora marshall islands lantana monti
ora pearlberry acro
sunset milli
blue turaki
superman monti
reverse sunset monti

again, jus some thoughts for the sps display... i will start adding lps to the 65g now that i have a good light for it... I also have all my zoa and palys in there now and i really like that... hope to add some nice lps here and there and an aneneome or two... i would also like to focus on nice favia's as i really like their structure and the sharp contrast of usually two bold colors that can be found on them... really gorgeous corals imo...

Stocking Wishlist, a few more thoughts...

Stocking Wishlist, a few more thoughts...

as far as fish and inverts... i seem to have lost my sixline wrasse from jumping or something, but he is MIA over nite with no trace, and if he jumped, a cat could have very well made off with him... all is well, i will be adding screen covers to 65g soon... but not the display... but this is what i am thinking to add to the current stock...

Display...

nothing really...

"Fuge"... (perhaps not all of the following, but some ideas)

Scopas Tang
Mystery Wrasse (a definate)
Diamond Goby (a definate)
Yellow Coris Wrasse
ora Blue Mandarin (a definate)

(3) Fire Shrimp
(2) Rose Bubble Anenomes

I might actually be doing something on the lines of your setup but with a 33g long and 40g breeder with a 75g sump.

also piping to and from the sump (but stand alone) phyto and pod tanks

I really like having the "second display" or functional second tank, but within the same system... especially now that i have a better light for it... its gonna allow me to do alot i cant do in my main display... different light variations and much lower flow in my 65g "fuge" should allow me to keep various LPS and zoas/palys as well as anenomes... and still have my isolated sps "display"...

some phyto and pod tanks is a great idea... you could jus use a small pump and smaller tanks or as big as you want it... and have it constantly fed into your system... great call...

what do you feed or dose in your tank for food?

I don't really feed anything... once in a while i may throw about 25 drops of oysterfeast, but that is rare... I basically add nothing but 2 part and a small water change here and there...

Hey Neal. What size is the actual tile your using? The only ones I could find were the 1" by 1". These seemed kinda small to me.
Thanks

hey bud... the tiles are from lowe's and are 2" x 2", made of ceramic, and not coated with any thing at all... they should be in the tile section, and they come in a 1' x 1' sheet with 6 rows of 6... im sure they have some 2 x 2" tiles there some where... it took me a bit to find them, they have all kinds of all sizes, so missing them the first time could easily happen ;) good luck bro!

little update...

little update...

so i had a couple notes to add for the heck of it... measured my parameters today, and all looks good... i have gotten into the habit of checking them right before i dose my 2 part and/or magnesium... i am more concerned with how low they get at their lowest point lately, rather than checking after i dose...

also, a few pics... my new strawberry shortcake and limeade frags... as well as a pic of my bleached red planet... i changed my bulbs up a bit about a week and a half ago, and the red planet didnt like the sudden change too much, but its on the mend :)

parameters i tested:

calcium 450

alkalinity 8.2

magnesium 1320

so i am happy with those ;)

and the pics...

my strawberry shortcake frag... its light in color, cuz it bleached a little too between the light and recent shipping, but its healthy aside from that and already starting to encrust... it actually looks a little lighter than it really is... its about 2" tall... nice frag from cultivated reef :)

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/?action=view&current=IMAG0604-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/IMAG0604-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

the ATL limeade, also from cultivated reef and pale, but also encrusting, and at a faster rate than the SSC... i was pretty happy with my purchase from them, it was my first mail order from an online vendor... again, has alot of coloring up, but its nice and healthy aside from that...

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/?action=view&current=IMAG0606-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/IMAG0606-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

and my red planet, lost ALOT of color due to bleaching, and it was only 3" from the tank bottom... i only changed two bulbs, but they were the ones directly above it... those two bulbs went from ati blue plus' to ati aquablue special rated at 12k... its very very very light, but its doin better than it was a few days ago... i raised the light, and moved it back under the blue milli and orange cap for a couple days to start, and i cut my day lights photoperiod in half, and put an hour break to turn off, in between that time... for now, its 3 hours on, 1 hour off, then 3 hours on again for my 4 daylights (all aquablue specials)... i also raised my light a couple inches...

this is also actually a much better pic of the SSC...

Jus wanted to note...

I lost my 6 line wrasse a few weeks back... and I replaced him today... always good to have one of these in with your sps imo :) jus sayin...

OH!

and since i am thinking of it, today is the one year anniversary of my sps keeping... it was june 1st of last year that i added my first sps... the green monti confusa, the green stylophora, the green millipora, and green highlighter acro :) the blue tipped stag was added about one week later...
