Ya know, I gave it a shot, and I jus don't like it lol, at least not in higher light and when I like more flow... So I removed my sand... Very happy about it ;)

Good to see you back with out sand my next project is going to be like yours just high flow strong light and a good skimmer and that's it no Gfo no carbon might do calc and kalk reactor not sure yet looking for a shallow frag tank and a rubber maid container love the no sand :)
 
I like the no sand a lot better... I have one 20g display plumbed in now with sand, and soon I'll be adding a second... I jus didn't want any in with my sps...
 
Bare bottom to the end huh, lol. I'm surprised you kept the same in there as long as you did, lol. I'm a sand bed kinda guy but even without the sand you tank is still awesome.
 
Very excited to watch this tank progress, I was a fan of your last tank. I might have missed it, but are you dosing or using a calcium reactor?
 
I set up my new tank with sand after having the bb in the 57. It's been over a month now and I want to go back to bb. I hate that I can't have the flow where I want it and actually had to turn off one koralia bc of the sandstorms. The 80 is only 16" high. I might be just like you and going back soon. Much easier to maintain also.
 
Has anyone considered a faux sand bottom that's like made out of cerami. Or porcelain or cemented crushed coral. That way you get the best of both worlds bare bottome yet not bare. Kind of designer bare bottom.

The flow control and cleanliness are the two biggest factors... And it's weird, visually sand tanks away from the display for me, as opposed to others who feel the opposite... Lol, I gave it a chance for the 4th or 5 th now, and I've decided against in an sps display...
 
My zoa garden... Was plumbed in a few weeks back... Finally got a light :beer:
