Neal's Zoa/Paly Pics...

Its not your typical tank.. but it is absolutely not a frag tank... Its jus my own approach to the presentation and catering of corals...

But, ive said those hundreds of tikes here on RC... It is what it is... Different.... But succesful for the most part...

muy clementines have 4 now, and are forming a 5th... i hope they do well...

and i should be able to get some better pics now... i got myself a treat... its on order, and it will take me some time to learn... its probably more a beginner model, but thats about my speed, and im stoked :)

The big thing on mopst of the better camera is that thing called a lens for getting good closup pictures. Then there is the difference is color balance. What you see is not always what you get with digital cameras regrdless of the price tag. I know my Nikon made all my pictures look very blue of my tanks untill I found how to set the corect white balance on the camera. But for those close up pictures the low cost camera does a better job for me untill I can afford a macro lens and justify it to my wife.

ill be getting a nice macro lens as soon as i can... and after i learn the camera a bit... i do a little garder/flower and nature photography, which i am much better at than with my corals, so that will be fun too and help me learn... and i know all about how the color balance can get jacked up... the price tag really has nothing to do with it... i would have gotten a nikon, but the last two i had failed on me... i tried to chose "middle of the road"... so i got something decent, but not over the top for price...

very much looking forward to a better lens for it though for sure...

and here is a newer, little better (at best) pic of my xmen... after 3 months in my system, they have finally settled in, plumped up, and are starting to color up...

i was thumbing through old pics from last april... i no longer have any of these, except these first ones, the bam bams... the rest i got rid of about 10 months ago, or lost along the way...

here are my orange bam bams which are now quite larger of a colony...

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/?action=view&current=00024.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/00024.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

here are some whammin watermelons (or eagle eyes, i can never tell with these 2)...

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/?action=view&current=00021.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/00021.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

some poison ivy's i eventually lost...

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/?action=view&current=00025.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/00025.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

some candy apple pinks... this is where i stopped fragging my zoas... i fragged them... the colony never regained its color or shape, and jus never looked the same after that... i have not fragged zoas since, and will never again, frag my zoas...

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/?action=view&current=00030.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/00030.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

some Armor of Gods that ended up covering 7 tiles before i got rid of them a month or so, after this pic...

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/?action=view&current=IMAG0463-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/IMAG0463-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App"></a>

and this one was also given another month or two where it covered more than 5 tiles.. radioactive dragon eyes, with some sunflower mixed in...

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/?action=view&current=00029.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/00029.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

and my old fire and ice colony... this is another i want to add again... along with triple reds...

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/?action=view&current=00026.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/00026.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

nice to look back... looking forward to getting more into zoas and paly's again...

growing like mad at this point... these are my least favorrite zoas, but they have done so well the last 6 months, i cant see getting rid of them...

candy apple reds, with more room to grow now :)

wont be staying in front here, need to move to the back...

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%20April%202012/?action=view&current=IMAG2052.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%20April%202012/IMAG2052.jpg" border="0" alt="Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App"></a>

Why don't you like them? I've always though that they were pretty darn nice.

i dont know, lol... i mean, i dont dislike them, this jus dont do it for me like some of my others... but they are doing really well... looking forward to the next 6 months of them growing :)

jus after mounting... i like a top view sometimes, closed or not...

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%20April%202012/?action=view&current=IMAG2049.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%20April%202012/IMAG2049.jpg" border="0" alt="Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App"></a>

a new pic of my newest addition... captain america paly... a pretty large and fat polyp... currently opening up now and in this pic... the left side is folded over the right side at the moment, but it seems to be getting comfy slowly but surely...

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%20April%202012/?action=view&current=IMAG2059.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%20April%202012/IMAG2059.jpg" border="0" alt="Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App"></a>

I just got a nice colony of Capts from a friend that broke down a tank. Initially I didn't like them and wasn't planning on getting any. Once I got them under my AIs they turned out just awesome. Wait until that guy grows out, they're pretty cool.

and not the best pic, and i had to move it back out of the direct flow of the mp40s... 24 hours later, and it seems to be much more relaxed and comfortable... you cant see the color in the pic, but it is actually quite nice for a captain america... i dig it ;)

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%20April%202012/?action=view&current=IMAG2068-1-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%20April%202012/IMAG2068-1-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App"></a>

and an okay at best, pic of my clementines... its hard to get a good shot of anything that is not 6" from the front glass (still using the phone camera)... this one sits about 10 to 11" back... the fourth polyp to the middle right is new since ive gotten it, and there are two more forming to the left side/back... they are still small, and have some plumping up to do, and their color and shape are a bit outta wack, but so far, the growth is a good sign... a few months, they should be a nice small colony that is off and running... *fingers crossed*

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%20April%202012/?action=view&current=IMAG2078-1-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%20April%202012/IMAG2078-1-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App"></a>

and some more polyp pics for the day... but first, all these pics from today were taken with only 4 bulbs on (except the chalice pic)... 2 blue plus, 1 aquablue special, and one purple plus...

my new bulb configuration is as follows...

blue plus
true actinic
blue plus
purple plus
aquablue special
blue plus
true actinic
blue plus

im pretty happy with it right now... i would not normally use the true actinics and i had a 2nd aquablue special recently (used to use 3), but decided to go back to some true actinic bulbs to see if i liked any difference...

but anyhow, back to the pics, which more didnt even have the actinics on, lol... and are whitewashed quite a bit, sorta speak...

I would also like to note here, that as of today (or whenever it gets here i should say) i am trying Red Sea Pro Coral salt... i will no longer be using regular Instant Ocean...

this salt will slowly be worked in as i will keep my current water change regiment at 4.5 gallons per week... i did miss this week as i used the last of the fresh IO water in my rock curing effort, so next week, when i get the salt, the first water change will be 9 gallons... which is 10% of my total water volume at this time...

i am interested to see if there are anything i feel improved in any way, either livestock or water quality wise, in a few months down the road...

but anyhow, my current dosing regiment... it used to be alot higher usage, but i have less than half the sps i had 6 months ago... and less water volume as well, about 50g's less than before my "upgrade"...

*****

1 drop of lugols daily
5 drops of elos amino acids
7 mL of BRS calcium
6 mL of BRS alkalinity
5 mL of BRS magnesium
