near devastation

Well I suffered my first major loss in the hobby last night...

- My bta split about 2 weeks ago. Both clones decided to attempted to commit suicide into my Koralia-3's. I saved one last week and the other managed to move away from the powerheads, after getting a few tentacles chopped.

The one I relocated back into the original crevice the anemone's foot was anchored into hasn't moved and is being hosted. Im grateful for that much at this point..

I came home very early this am from out of town and my skimmer sounded funny... i knew something was up... kicked on my led moonlights to find my tank on the brink of crashing. The larger bta clone hadn't settled and got absolutely destroyed in on of my K'3s- my tank looked like someone had poured a gallon of milk into it - everything was hurting. A few frags especially took a beating, but everything has since stabilized. I did a water change (30%) today and plan to do another soon.

Im glad I checked it instead of just falling asleep. :)

Thanks Henry.
Things are looking much better. I did another partial wc just now.
and also fed my other anemone a nice sized silverside and my clowns and tang some PE mysis, nori and formula 2.. I figured they deserved some love after making in through the night...

I'm sure you realize they didn't commit suicide, they were simply adjusting to the flow. I'm sorry for your loss, but negligent to have unguarded powerheads.

yes, I put it that way to make myself feel better. :)

I dont think they were unhappy with the flow- if they were, the remaining one wouldn't be staying put. It is definitely possible though. they kept settling right next to each other in the same area the original bta was.. and I havent changed the flow recently.

Tufacody, you are spot on about not guarding the powerheads. Can you/anyone direct me to a thread where this is addressed? or give your own directions for guarding them?

Thanks.
