Im involved in a 700gal tank that will have a remote sump roughly 85 feet away, and roughly 10 feet of verticle head. The home is wired in 3 phase 208v power and I need a couple of pumps for the job. Ill need CL pumps (wont be remote) as well as the sump pump that will have to push through probably 100feet of pipe.

Thoughts suggestions ideas are welcomed.

Thanks

Thanks for the tip, looks like the suitable pump. Although expensive I doubt it will be an issue in this case.

have you looked into the pool industry? I used a 1hp pump from a local pool store and it worked fine and under $300. Just a thought.

There is no reason to use a 3 phase pump just because the house is wired for it. The sub panel in the house will break it out to single phase so you can use normal single phase pumps. I would not use a single 10k gph pump. To much of a risk of failure. Instead I would run 2 x 5000gph pumps. Look at something like a large Sequence or Sweetwater pump. Good luck.

Ya its not my choice to go with the 3 phase, its the guy Im helping.

He doesnt want to have to use the capaciter, and at 3 phase its an easier start for the pump.

We use jacuzzi pumps on our 10,000 gallon system. We us two 3Hp pumps going to 2 different exhibits off of the same sump. There are many options for pumps that you can use. Call and talk to a tech at http://www.aquaticeco.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/contactus.home and they will be able to help you out. Lots of bigger pumps don't come pre-wired so you have to specify what phase and volts it will be running off of..
Also, What is listed on there websight is not all that they carry..

I'm in agreement with Chicken in that it would be better to use two smaller pumps for redundancy reasons. If that is an option, I'm pretty certain that Sequence pumps can be ordered wired the way you want.

Just to throw this into the mix, you don't have to use 208V, you can use 230 -240 with a coupla boosters (transformers). My shop is wired 208V and I ran transformers for some of my 230-240V (3ph) equipment. Runs a coupla hundred bux but no biggie. You'd need a transformer for each leg so two per 3ph circuit. This is only if you have problems finding what you are looking for.

If you go with 3 phase make sure the pump is rotating in the proper direction upon start up. If it is backwards take any two leads of the three and switch them.
