Need a battery backup

I know the Vortech would be my first option but at the moment I need a cheaper alternative for when I'm away from home.I'm looking for one that will last at least 12 hours to run my pump and heater.I do not want an air driven one like azoo but one that will run power heads,or main pump and heater?

They make battery back-ups for computers.

Yeah just googled it but which one? Thats whats so confusing.
such as how long they last,Does it go by watts?

I think Im just trying to see what everyone without vortechs are using as an alternative because their are so many battery backups for the home and just like vortechs battery back ups (some of them have been failing) not all!:)
So Im leary about spending the money on the votechs at the moment.Id like to hear about a unit that someone has been using for a few years and has not had a problem and that lasts at least 6-12 hours.:)

Thanks :)

I'm no expert, but I dont think you will find a battery backup that can run a heater or pump, at least for very long. They can really only be used for small powerheads.

According to the data sheet, the VorTech MP40w only pulls a maximum of 28W. Thus, you could run one or two of those for quite a while on an inexpensive 600W UPS. A 300W heater on the other hand, is another story.

I have about a 400w APC UPS that has ran 2 of my old K4 for over an hour without issue. Its now got my MP40w on it, haven't tested it yet. One of these days when I am bored I will see how long the power head can run.

heaters are really going to drain the batteries. Stick with running your powerheads. With any decent sized tank, it will take a while for it to cool down.
