I am purchasing a 130 gal Oceanic that is 60" wide and 28" deep. I need a good light to mount in the canopy. I have a 48" corallfe now on my 60 gal. Its been a good light but the compact bulb replacements can be expensive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Heniochus, Blue tang, Coral beauty, Threadfin butterfly. Cleaner shrimp. SEa hair.
In the lamp. 10,000k and actinic, with possible lunar light if not too expensive.
Ahh, then you can get which ever light you prefer. But, with each fixture ( PC T5 MH ) the bulbs are going to need to be replaced. Though I think that T5s might last the longest in a FOWLR.
coralife seems to be about the cheapest but they have the compact bulbs that are about 45 a piece. Im thinking a lamp w/ 4 straight bulbs might be a better way to go. But they cost around 350-400.00 for a 48"
I have found the square pins to be easier to find, and a lot cheaper.
But, doing some looking at, hellolights and assuming you are using the 55/65 watt bulbs, they are only $22 a piece, not the $45 you are paying. So you might be able to keep your current fixture.
you can just do a T5 retro kit if you have the canopy. being that its a fish only, you don't have to worry about buying an ice cap ballast or individual reflectors. If in the future you decide to keep corals, you can add individual reflectors and change the ballast if you like.
