Need a pump...

Looking for a good return pump to run water from the basement to the display. I would buy used or appreciate any advice for a new purchase. We are looking at a 16ft rise and 12ft lateral spa flex run. Thanks in advance. Travis

I run a Quiet One 14000

It is the only one I could find that would move about 3000 gallons of water 15 feet up from my basement.

It is submersible and runs at just under 300 watts. Mag driven

If you want external (which is what I would suggest) I would look at the Reeflow pressure rated pumps. They seem to be the most efficient and produce the least amount of heat. Premium aquatics have a good selection or maybe bulkreefsupply.

jj,

Why do you recommend external?

I have no preference either way....I have a submersible just because it is working for me...for now anyways.

For the head pressure of 12+ feet it's going to need to be a somewhat decent size pump. Internal pumps such as Mag etc... that can produce that head will heat up the aquarium.
I've always been a fan of external pumps, I've owned multiple sequence pumps, they are quiet and have yet to fail me. Some of the internal pumps seem to fail more often or thats the impression I got after doing some research.
