Need a quick answer about Seio's

All of you greedy greedy people asking for these big expensive pumps for free.

For myself i will just request a small nano stream (controllable of course).

I'd be happy if I could find a needle wheel with about 600gph I could even BUY somewhere locally.

Well, the Seio 2600 finally came in today. Got it fired up and I gotta admit, I thought 2600gph would be a lotta flow, I guess it wasn't as much as what I thought. It seems to be doing a good job though. It has stirred the tank really good and there is lots of debris brought up from the substrate that should clear up in a day or so. The fish really like it, they keep swimming against the current. You guys were right. I will probably get another 2600 later on as an addition to this one. Guess that big barrell, 2" or so creates a wider flow path so that it doesn't seem so harsh. Oh well, it seems to be worth the money.

Yehhhhh that would be why was suggesting the Tunze over the Seio, but after you add another Seio or two you should be fine.

I am serious,

and don't call me Shirlly :)

I could'nt resist that old joke, no seriously we just evaluated a tank where the owners went with 3 Seios 2600 to cut cost, they now seriously regret that decision and wish they would have gotten one 6100 or maybe 2 depending on which route they wish to go with there reef. IMO one Tunze 6100 moves more water (somehow, maybe it's the pulsing?), than a Seio2600 and thats from what I have seen.

I tell you what I have tunze 6100 and a seio and the only thing the seio would be good for is swiling the water around my toilet bowl I wouldn’t take another if someone gave it to me I just ordered 2 more 6100,s and a multi controller im going to see if I can blow the sides out of my tank I will never buy anything but tunze:jester: :jester: :jester:

A bit strait forward but I wont argue with anyone with a tank like yours, results speak for themselves. BTW thats just too funny.

i just call it like i see it you can buy the best and have a really healthy nice tank or you can buy cheap and just have a tank:jester: :jester: :jester:

Of course a 6100 moves more water it's rated for ~3200gph vs 2600.
The Seio controller can pulse the larger pumps from 30%-100%.
Surely 2 Seio's isn't equal to one Tunze. Come on, are you serious?
Actually 2 Seio 2600s would have a greater output, 5200gph, than the Tunze 6100 but they'll still be Seios ;)

Guess it's just me but I'd take this toilet any day. Don't think it's too shabby for a 220 running on a mag 18 and 2 Seio 1500s :D

Guys in the end a Tunze product is only a tool. Abet a very nice, high quality one but they don't cure syphilis, promote world peace or guarantee a successful reef tank.
I've seen beautiful tanks utilizing Tunze, Seios, eductors, etc. I've also seen tunze tanks that looked like cesspools.
Use a Tunze, Vortec, Seio or an adequate closed loop to achieve good tank turnover. Combine that with excellent husbandry and you'll have a really healthy nice tank. Use any of them on an under skimmed, inadequately maintained one and you just have a tank.

I could use one of those too. See I'm easy to please :D

Im sure no one meant anything against Jims tank, there is a reason it's recognized on our front page.
http://www.chemicalvalleyreefclub.com/

I stand by my first response to his question on page one. I also stand by what I have said about what some pumps can and can not do, as I have heard and witnessed first hand what some of the problems with Seios and others can be. I choose Tunze systems as the tool for my needs, because they are reliable, efficient, and much easier than most other options which would need to be taken to generate the kind of flow I personally require in my systems, it is the best solution by far IMO.

I still believe that flow is the key and the most neglected aspect to most peoples reef tanks. Jims tank demonstrates exactly what I was saying, I also believe that if those were 6100 streams in there that the tank would look even better than it does now imagine that!. But he used what he had and it has worked for now. As his SPS grow they will require more and more flow, he knows this, any serious SPS keeper knows this.

Of course Tunze products can't "cure syphilis, promote world peace or guarantee a successful reef tank." as Amy said, but with the right tools in your arsenal, you will have a much better chance at achieving the goal of having a successful reef tank and Tunze helps achieve that goal. That's not a promotion, plug or advertisement but a fact as far as I am concerned.

jmccown:

Best of luck with your tank either way Im sure you will understand the flow issue in time, it took me 2 years of conferring and at times arguing with others until I did. My information in this thread has been only to help, sorry if I offended you but I call it as I see it with this subject and have since day one. You have a LARGE tank my friend, 380 gallons! and you are going to need a LOT more flow in the long run, how you achieve that flow is your choice.

Enjoy,
Ron

As I said before, lack of flow can cause mortalities in marine setups.
BTW - I've just had my second Mag 12 impeller fall apart in two weeks. Something's going on there - one of the screws holding the impeller cover together is different from the others - could it be a rebuilt unit?
Anyway, Danner was very good about sending me a new impeller. But they knew exactly what the problem was when I called, which makes me somewhat suspicious.
I'll probably go with Tunze from now on, especially after Matt's enthusiastic recommendation of their products. Of course, Matt can afford better equipment than I can. Dammit.

Hey Terry you had any complaints about any of the ViaAqua impeller assemblies going bad. I have seen two now that were split from the inside out like they tried to blow apart in the pump? All were on old pumps so may have been neglected care in both cases but I have never seen anything like it before.

Couldn't agree more about flow being the key, along with adequate nutrient control :)
BTW Jim added two more 1500s a couple of weeks ago.

The via aqua 4900 i had as a back up pump on my old tank did this after about a year of use. I am religious about cleaning my pumps every 3 months so in my case it wasnt neglect.

In the case of the via aqua you get what you pay for. They are ok IMO if you just want to have something cheap on hand in the event of a pump failure but thats about it.

I have never personally used a SEIO so i cant comment much on them.

I do LOVE everyrthing Tunze makes. They are one of the few companies that have good products across the board. Plus you cant beat Tunzes customer service. When i move this summer and reset my tank up i will use at least one nano stream.

actually, I got two of the viaaqua pumps when I purchased my 120 gal, using both of them was a little too much flow because it was blowing holes through my filter media, so I went down to one and used a Y. The pump I took out, I washed and put away, when I went to get it for my 45 gallon tank, the impeller was split, just like you described, like it was blown apart. I didn't say anything because I figured it was due to maybe some salt not getting washed out completely.
