Need Advice about in wall design

Think about how you are going to get power to the lighting. I drilled an extra hole for a bulkhead and some PVC to run cords through.

greg and golfish, thanks for the kind words..I appreciate the offer for help..I will probably call when its time to move the stand in the house....

scott, Im not sure what you mean....can you please clarify..thanks

My floor plan is like yours. I ultimately decided not to use the wall you are using. I opted to have the tank in a room where we spend the most time. We don't ever use our dining and living room. only our family room. Plus having the back of the tank in the garage would make the garage kind of useless for actually parking cars.

EDIT:
I just read the rest of the thread. I'm glad you changed the location.

Josh

Well, you need to get power to the light somehow. While you have the wall apart, you may want to add an outlet or two for your lighting needs. I did not take that much wall apart when I did mine. I ran my wiring throught another bulkhead and spliced the plugs back on. There is a picture in my gallery, that may help more (or a least be worth 100 words).

Scott S,
Ok I think I know what your saying now...Im not so sure Im going to need to set up my wiring the same way. Although my tank will be a room divider I will have full access on one side of the wall with cabinetry Im going to design. I plan on having a seperate fuse box in one of the cabinets so that all wiring runs to this location. Thanks for the advice though....its always nice to know more than one way of doing something!!

AWESOME!!!..the tank is now done...I had gone to www.socalcreations.com website to check on the status of my tank and they have it posted as finished...it was very cool of them to post pics of the tank they are building for you...no need to drive over there or call all the time to check on the status of the tank...very convenient!!! Here are some of the pics of the tank all finished....

The other thing that I wish that I would have done is to put some type of access from the living room wall to clean the glass. Magnet scrapers only go so far and it makes it difficult to stack live rock the way YOU want it.

The little woman made the comment the other day that the office side of the tank looks better than the living room side. My response was that I put everything the way SHE told me to.

Another thing to think about is ventilation in the stand. Everything is enclosed in my case and the humidity is reeking havoc with a couple of things.

Just something else to think about.

Hurray... I just got the tank today and started the demolition process. I tore down the wall and plan on framing in the stand tomorrow. Hopefully I can knock out a lot of work this weekend....

Hey mike. Great job keeping us posted. Give me a hollar if you need a hand. I am usually free weekends.

I moving in June and an in wall design is an awesome choice. I'm going to bug the heck out of you w/ questions..lol.

Hey Charles, thanks for the offer. I just might hit you up when Im ready to start moving the stuff in. Thanks a lot for offering your assistance..

P.S. I might have to buy some of that fire and ice off of you some time...I put my colony in my sump when I was fragging it and left it there for a day. The next day when I went to put it back in the main display it in only had a few polyps left. I must have some type of crab in my sump that had eaten most of the colony. What luck:mad2:

I am ssooo bummed. The frag I picked up, didn't last long :( . Crabs will eat zoos?

I will try to pick some up from Richard (IEMAS member) when his colony starts growing.

It is against the fire code to knock out a pice of wall between the garage and hause. Good thing you diden't put it there:)

What you are doing, is going to look great!!!!!

Swissfish, thanks for the kind words...I am glad I changed my mind after all....besides, at least in the living room I will be able to sit and enjoy it a lot better...

hello mike

the progress looks great so far. i woul love to check it out in person as it gets closer to going in the wall. Fire and Ice zoo's are doing well once they grow in i will get you some back since your colony was lost. good luck on the rest of the work.

Richard
