Need advice on new controller

Hello,

This is actually been tough to research. I am down between the Reefkeeper lite and the APEX jr. I have WiFi in my house and am really interested in being able to keep up with my tank on the go through my smartphone. Is either of these plug and play out of the box ready to use with WiFI. It is impossible for me to hook up to my ethernet by a cord so I need wireless. I cannot tell if the RFL with NET or the APEX jr. has this ability or not.

Thanks,
JIM

I know with the Apex you need wireless adapter not sure about RFL. Apex recommends that all firmware updates are done wired. Apex is in the process of developing wireless updates but as of right now they strongly recommended all updates done wired.

I use a wireless adapter on my apex lite and it works great. I also have the android app and it works just as good. I bought a cheapo wireless gaming adapter ( neatgear I believe).

That's exactly how I run my ProfiLux. Works like a charm and I'm also able to connect a tank-cam and my Dishnetwork RX up to the same adapter making 3 different items "wireless" all at the same time.

The apex is pretty plug and play. all modules are automatically recognized and there are standard profiles to run outlets. As far a wireless. i used a network extender. then plugged my apex into that. both of which are under my stand. i have a spare ethernet cable coiled up connected to the router for updates and such.

I have a Reef Keeper Elite... With Reef Keeper, you need the NET module, and it's not wireless. I've also had problems with it and have had to completely reset it and program everything more than once. I don't like it, because I feel I can't trust it. But when it IS running correctly, it's nice. The only reason I still have it is because of cost. As soon as I have the money to by an Apex system, I'll be switching and selling this system...

any of the controllers in the market can be attached to a wireless bridge to make them accessable BUT if you dont have a hard wire ethernet connection then some will not do firmware updates via wifi.
I have RKE and APEX. RKE has a net module that hooks up to ethernet cable but can be hooked to wireless bridge and updates are possible over wifi.
APEX on the other hand is also hooked up to wifi but in order to do firmware updates i have to run a 50ft wire through the house from my router to tank.

I use a wifi bridge real cheap and works fine on my apex. The update part is a bit easier since I just flap my laptop to the apex using a cross over cable.
