Need advice

I am looking to start my next reef tank. I want to set up a 40 gallon breeder with a 20 gallon sump but have no idea where to start. I will be buying items for this over a long period of time. I would love to keep softies and a pair of clowns. I would also like to have a blenny, but I would mainly concentrate on corals. Thanks for any advice you can give.

My suggestion for the 40b is you are willing to wait, and it might be awhile since I think Petco just ended the sale recently. But pick one up when Petco does the Dollar Per Gallon sale and get one there, same goes for the 20 gallon sump. 60 bucks+tax for the tank and sump is an awesome deal that cant be passed up if you are willing to wait.

Then just watch for when people are breaking down tanks and picking up the rest of the equipment cheap.

Absolutely what Alan said,

Also start reading now about drilling the tank for over flow and return.

Like they said, PetCo has been including their 40br tanks in their dollar/gal sale lately. They used to not do it, but apparently they've made a change. $40 is way better than $125.

If you do have to pay full price, I would look into a custom 40g tank made with similar dimensions, but rimless or with a starphire front. I have no idea how much more it would cost, but it may be worth it. I've noticed that there are some issues looking through the tank up close. The refraction can be a little tough on the eyes. I don't regret my tank, but I'd be a lot happier with it if I paid $40.

As far as where to start with a 40 br and sump, look for my build thread and Roman's (happysac) too. We both have a little different approach to what you're wanting to do. I have a thread in this COMAS sub group and one in RC's General sub group. Feel free to PM me with questions, thoughts and musings

Cody you have a nice looking set up. Happysaks is a great looking set up also. They make me want to really get on getting the stuff together for mine. I have always loved the look of the 40 breeders and now that I am back into the saltwater tank world I am dead set on getting me one and my husband is all for it also just have to figure out where I am going to place it in my home lol
