Ok Not to happy with the ER 180....One day it skims wet then dry then over flows...Ove the past 3 weeks it never stays Constance. The water level doesn't change at all, Just the way I have my sump set up. And now my tank is taking a turn for the bad....Green algae all over my glass with in a day, filter Sox is really nasty just after one day. I stop dosing 2 weeks ago because no3 and po4 was really low...Theres still is no gha...Thanks goodness. So now I'm thinking about buying a new skimmer...Need input on what one to get. Was looking at this one>>>AquaMaxx EcoMaxx EM300 In-Sump Protein Skimmer.

Were you dosing carbon? If so the increase in algae presence could certainly be from you stopping suddenly with carbon.

What were you dosing and how much?

Nopox 5 ml in am and 5 ml in pm....Don't think it was a lot.....that's way I stopped all together.

I don`t understand I have had 3 different euro reefs RS80, RS135, CS6-2 Recirculating and they were and still are set it and forget it style skimmers....by far the best skimmers I have ever owned of course they act crazy for a minute after you change your sock everyday I just use that time to clean the skimmer cup and then the sock problem passes and the cup is re attached

Where do you set the water level at?

well its a little different now since I have about 20 feet of airline tubing into my roofline for better fresh air for PH problem but the adjustment for the bubbles is about half way up the cup maybe just a little bit less and just leave it check it every hour just to see whats happening if nothing then raise the bubble height once you get some good skimmate then leave it ......sometimes I find if my arm is in the tank the bubbles will go down a lot in the skimmer the oils from our skin can alter the skimmer just leave it, it will pass so maybe to set your skimmer make sure you don`t touch the tank and try to set it and forget it

I just measured the water height in the skimmer area is 11" and the skimmers a have used are 24" tall

I would get about 1" of yellow to brown skimmate a day and since I have added the 20' airline tube I now get 1" of brown skimmate every day to day and a half still good for me

May just be the pump causing the headaches with inconsistent skimming, if you can see if FAOIS can help out.

Take it from me I tried AquaMaxx EcoMaxx EM300 In-Sump Protein Skimmer for two weeks and it was great. I swapped it out do to pump making a odd hum and got a Reef Octopus Diablo DCS 200 In-Sump Protein Skimmer for an extra 100. It is adjustable and super silent but almost twice the air draw at max power. 1020 lph vs 2100 lph

If you add one or two drops of Brightwell's phosephate e right into the center of your skimmer cup, it will go right back to skimming the way it was before you messed with it. Just give it about 15 to 30 seconds......

Hey Matt I had the same problem with mine also so I set the bubbles half way up the collection cup and left it there for about 30 minutes to stabilize then made very small adjustment to get it where I wanted. I have mine set about half way between wet and dry skimming produces about 3/4 inch of dark green a day

Ok I think I have it set....Had to set the water level a little higher....

This is a 2 litter bottle after 3 days.

Looks like it's working almost identical to mine.... Another thing I did also Matt after with BobbyV is I took my filter socks out of the tank and directed my drain toward my skimmer intake made the biggest improvement
