Need an EF Macro - 100mm?

I have my trusty Canon 300D (with the hacked firmware ) and I'm in need of a macro lens. I'm looking for EF (and not EF-S) lenses - I still use my film Rebel and like using my lenses everywhere.

What are people's thoughts on the Canon Macro 100mm EF USM lens? How does it compare to the L glass one step up? I have the 24-70L as a general purpose lens which is fantastic, but $600 less on a lens is $600 more into the tank

The 100 2.8f, in most folk's opinion, should have a red stripe. Weather sealing is the only thing that it's missing. It's top-notch glass.

The winter Canon rebate kicks in on the 15th so wait and you might be able to save even more.

(That and B&H isn't accepting orders until next week anyway....)
