Need Blue Sponge support

I like the blue sponge, but I can't find too much information on it. Is there anyone who has experience with it?

Got any pictures? I've got some blue Haliclona sponge that has been doing very well for me for over a year now. It has grown from a small piece, to a couple of 3" tall spires (and a few small frags). I've had to under med to med high light and med flow. I don't do any real supplemental feedings to support it. I'll try to work on a picture tomorrow.

I haven't purchased it yet! thanks for the reply. I think I will simply pick up this good size coral and hope it does well.

there are probably hundreds of different species of blue sponge. here is mine, it is photosynthetic and very hardy, i can even expose it to air.

This is mine. I believe it to be Haliclona sp. Info is difficult at best, though there is a forum out there that Bob Fenner mods with some good info, once you figure out where everything is (wetwebmedia, maybe?).

Sponges can generally be removed from the water without too many problems (though some collapse under the weight of air and don't hold the same structure the same as before, IME). The thing to watch for with most sponges is trapped air. It's always recommended to swish the sponge around, twisting it this way and that to allow any trapped air to leave the sponge cavity. Trapped air creates problems within the sponge for its normal functions. I have a purple sponge I thought was Haliclona, too, that I'm working on, too. I had it out of water quite a bit to frag it (was on a large branching Lobo skeleton and had some algae around it). Much of it has died, but some if it is starting to look better. It had been growing out in the light in my softie tank (no extra feeding), so I'm hopeful I was just too rough on it when I moved it from the display.

Here is the blue. Bluest thing in my tanks (similar to a Linkia).

Sponges have some of th enicest colors out there. With as easy as this one has been to grow (just not lightening fast, but I've done nothing special), I can't believe it isn't everywhere. There isn't much info on the types of photosynthetic sponges, but I know they are out there. I wish I could tell which ones are photosynthetic by looking at them...
