need help all 120 owners

I could use some help with setting my 120 up.
1st. step the stand, I decided to go with a 6ft stand thus allowing me 2ft extra room on the side and below the tank..

2nd. Purchased the sump I decided to go with a 75 gallon which I drilled for a exturnal pump { Sequence ReefFlo Snapper Water Pump 2500gph}..

3rd The protein skimmer { Octopus Dual Recirculating 250 Protein Skimmer }.

I'm finishing the stand and should be done Monday. After that everything should move along pretty quick.

So I'm asking for all 120 owners to help guide me and give some imput and posting pics of their setup will help greatly..

Limiting yourself to just asking for help from 120 owners is kind of silly. Many of us have ran multiple size tanks and plumbed them. Size of tank doesn't matter much. The advice from someone with a 180 is just as valid as someone with a 120 or a 75 or other size tank. The basics are the same. There is nothing unusual with a 120.

You may get better response if you don't limit the responses.

If you bought a manufacturers stand that's 2 ft longer than the tank you'll need to reinforce it. Their stands are designed to support the corners of the tank. Just screw an upright 2x4 in the stand under where the corners of the tank will be.

Excellent pump.

I put a 50 gal breeder tank under my 120 as a sump and have regretted not putting a 40 down there. It's too damn tall to reach the back of it.

Very true I'm looking for imput. I'm asking everyone I should not have posted 120 owners. So lend me a hand.

Yes I did reinforce the stand and am finishing with the staining as we speak.

The return pump will supply both the tank and the skimmer.
I've also got a wave timer that I can run 4 heads on. I'm planning on running 2 maxi jet 900's with the high flow mods.

The sump {75 gallon} looking at ways to set this up fuge and other options.

I personally would not use that large of a pump for a sump return.

Do yourself a favor and get something alot smaller, somwhere in the 600 gph at 4' of head range for the sump return, use the snapper for a closed loop.

Here is how I plumbed my 120g. One overflow feeds the skimmer. Of course I added a filter sock holder and extended the skimmer return in to the sump....

Looking at ways to design the sump. The return I'm using will be gated back till the lines get broke in and the excess will be returned back to the sump.. I'm at the point were the tank will be brought into the house so everything will move along alittle faster now. so keep the ideas coming..

I have a similar setup with a 4x2x2ft tank and a 6ft stand. My sump however is a mere 3ft. If I could have a do over, I would get a similar length sump as my main tank or even longer. Reason being, I would place most of my equipment like calcium reactor and what not into the sump rather than outside of it. As for top off water, I would create a section for it in the sump itself or place a container of it in the sump with something weighing down the actual container preventing it from floating. Presently, only my drop-in coil chiller is in the sump and everything else placed outside at either end of the stand. Sorry but I do not have a pic of the tank as I do not have a camera.

sjames - he's using it for return + skimmer, he should be fine.

RevHTree - I'd redo your drain lines for a couple reasons. T'ing them together is fine, but you need to increase the size of the collective drain. You've essentially cut your drainage capacity in half. Also, I'd extend the line further into the water to avoid splashing which will in turn cause more microbubbles & excessive salt creep.

Ok the stand is complete. I'll post pics shortly. I'm trying to figure out a sump design. I will have the whole 75 gallon tank to work with, this will be a sump/refuge . All the other equipment will be outside the sump{75 gallon}. The skimmer will be outside also.

After looking at the inside of the stand. I could place the skimmer just above the return pump. The top part of the stand besides the tank will then be used for all electric equipment
So I'm off looking for ideas on the sump design.
