Need Help, Blond Naso not eating.

Adding a calmer tang like the naso in with tangs that already are established could be causing the problem. They may bully when you aren't watching.

Well you added a tang requiring a minimum of an 8 foot tank into a small tank with established tangs that also require a larger tank. I am surprised that you are surprised that it is not eating. Sorry to be so blunt. Your best approach is to take him back and add no more tangs into that tank. As it is you have some fairly large fish (sailfins will exceed a foot if they survive that long) in a fairly smallish tank. Tangs will eat algae off the rocks and you have far too many competitors for a small amount of food. From your other posts, it is also likely that this is not a mature tank, which exacerbates the problem.

My Naso did not eat any of the food I offered for almost 2 months. Luckily, I had a HUGE problem with dictyota, and it cleaned all that right up, so it never lost any weight. I think the smaller Nasos (mine is about 4 inches as well) take a longer time to adjust to captivity. The first thing I saw it eat was Hikari mysis. Didn't like the bigger PE Mysis and would just spit it out. Now it eats almost everything, except it doesn't fancy Spectrum Pellets very much. It also will rip the Nori right out of my hands. If you can get a rock with a lot of algae on it, this would be the best bet to keep yours from starving. Mine still grazes all day on the various algae in my tank after it's eaten all the Nori. Good luck.

Hi,

I am curious to know what article says a naso must be in an 8ft tank. I would assume this is when they are at full adult hood. I have seen and had five six even 7 inches inch naso's in a 6ft tanks. A Naso is the slowest most leisurely swimming unaggressive tang I have ever watched. I would bet the reason he is not eating is because of the yellow tang not liking the yellow on him. The fact that he was last in plays a big part here too. Mine eats only green algae off a clip or particles of this dumped in, he spits out the mysis and brine my hippos are eating.

you may want to qt him to get him to eat then try it again but this depends on the size of your qt and the size of the naso. You may have to take him back

Good Luck
