Need help choosing new salt mix

When i called the lady said they were not going to carry it anymore...but then again she gave me wrong info about the description.... I ordered 10bags...it was cheaper than buying the buckets plus shipping was a lot less as well. I think my total shipping was $14 including all the other pet junk i bought.

ha ha i got the last of the bags....i hope they dont stop carrying it or the manufacturer doesnt stop making it.. "item on backorder till 11/16....anyone find HW anywhere else online?

nuclearreefs, after reading the early pages of the thread, i did order a box of the HW salt. I finally made the first water change with it last weekend. It's been about 5 days now and I can already see a big difference from my kent salt I was using. There's not much algae on the glass as compared to kent. No need to clean the glass yet this week. Corals look good too. Glad I got it. I'll be using it from here on.

Kent salt has a bonding agent that contains silicates in it from time to time .... thats the only thing that steers me away from kent salt... Glad you made the switch.. you wont be sorry

slightly off Topic. I posted earlier that my salt mix doesnt mix clear. I aerate the fw for 24 hrs and it stays crystal clear. I add the mix and mix for 24 hrs and the mix doesnt mix clear. I use 50% Oceanic and 50% Tropic marin pro. I then used 100% TMPRO this past time and it didnt mix clear either. anyone else experience this?

Are silicates really an issue? Your corals will eat diatoms stirred into the water. many things need silicates (sponges, etc)

i beleive to much silicates is the root of the brown spots that will grow on the glass.. i agree some things need them but to much and you get unwanted brown spots on live rock and glass.. So yeah,, i think its somewhat of an issue .

that what i have exactly with my TMP reef next salt will be the HW

fostersmith doesn't have anymore hW in stock. If it's so hard to get a hold of, it might be something to consider.

If you need an emergency batch of salt, and don't have enough, it'd be sure to hurt your tank to cold turkey on some other salt brand.

no doubt a stable salt mix is important but I have switched salt mixes "cold turkey several times and I have had no ill effects. regular changes, stability, good husbandry all rank above type of salt. as long as its a reputable brand, has good calc, alk, mag levels. Im ok with it. just my opinion.. I use TM pro now but will be switching to reef crystals soon

i am switching cold turkey...albeit i am only doing tiny WC's for the next few weeks..i am BB and want to see if a little dirtier tank adds more colors(so all these people are saying, i think it is a crap idea, but of course i am going to do it anyways)

so you are saying that we cant get the HW anymore from them....i am sure if you google it you can find plenty of vendors(faS definitely isnt the only vendor on the planet)
