hello all, I have a sweetlip with a cloudy right eye and on his left there are big air bubbles on the inside of the eye, I also just noticed my pink tail trigger's right eye is cloudy now also! I have had the sweetlip for 4-5 weeks and is very healthy and has a good apetite, I have had the trigger for 1 week and has been in a reputable fish store in good health for 2 mos in very good health. I feed them baby frozen anchovies from the local market and romain lettuce, Do u know what kind of diesease this is and how I can cure them? thx in advance...........

Your fish have eye infections which is turning into popeye. Remove fish to a quarantine tank and treat with Furan2 for 7-10 days. Feed prepared foods from your local fish store. These foods are vitamin enhanced and are better for your fish's health. If you can't remove then try Melafix, it is a natural antibiotic. Don't protein skim during treatment. Remove any activated carbon.

THX, its hard to catch the trigger, I got the sweetlip and im gonna try to do sugery to the eye using a siringe. I did a search last night and hope this helps............thx again.

You have to be very careful when using a syringe to withdraw an air bubble from the eye. More time then not you wind up doing more damage to the fish because the fish's immune system is already low to begin with and the fish might not be able to handle the trauma from the syringe penetrating the lens.

There was an article on Wet Web Media by Bob Fenner addressing air bubbles in the eye. In the article he talked about dosing Epsom salt in the tank. I used this once on a Big Eye Catalufa and with in 3 days the air bubble escaped from the eye. I believe the dosage was 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons, but don't quote me on that, I haven't used it in a while. Plus in the article Mr. Fenner also stated that it can help cure cloudy eye.

I don't recall the link but go to wetwebmedia.com and do a search using epsom salt.

Tried the syringe thing and couldn't get it in the eye on the sweetlip, I just did about 4 freshwater dips in the past 2 days for about 5-6 mins. ea time and the air/gas bubbles seem the be gettin alot smaller, the left eye has pretty much cleared up! I also changed 8 gals of water on my tank with no salt cause me salinity seems to be high compared to how it use to be in the apst few yrs (1.021 for the past 6 yrs and when I did my last water change I think I put too much salt cause it was reading 1.025), hopefully I can save these 2 fish............!
