Just got another test kit and my Nitrates are 80! Doing some water changes. I should have known, I got a dimond golbe about 3 weeks ago and he stirred up the tank pretty bad at first. Now he calmed down. Water changes daily for me!!! Is there any way to bring them down any faster?

from 0 ot 80...hmmm. You may want to get a 3rd test kit as that is a HUGE discrepancy. IMO, bringing them down TOO FAST can elude to further stress on your corals and more RTN/STN. Few larger WC's every few days initially followed by smaller consistant ones should bring back in line. And an adjustment on feedings seems appropriate to prevent future issues.

I seriously doubt your nitrates are 80. That would be poisonous at that level and I think your fish and corals would be more stressed than they are.

Im gonna do some more test today . I done a 20 Gallon water change last night so Ill see where Im at. I hate these test kits.

first of all, that's not a slimer, it's skeleton structure and growth pattern are different. Second of all, Salifert! they are the most accurate kits i have ever used. Lastly, that trigger has a large bioload, when was the last time you changed your water, do you have a skimmer? high nutrients will cause acros to brown.

Yeah man thats not a slimer. Looks more like a purple plasma or whooly acro. As far as your nitrate test reading 80, what brand kit do you use? I stick with lamotte and salifert and never had a problem

Im not sure what the name of the coral is. I have been using API kit. Ill get me Salifert as you recomended. I had been doing a 10 to 15 gallon water change every week and then I got the gobbie and he clouded the whole tank by sifting the sand.I did another 15 gallon water change and never tested which I should have. Then I went on vacation for a week so waited 2 weeks to do another 20 gallon change. It had been another two weeks when I did one on this past Saturday 15gallon. thats when I really noticed the brown tips. So I tested and here I am. Im running a ASM G2 Skimmer and a sump with rubble and chaeto in center porton of sump. I run a phosphate reactor and usually stay on top of things. Ive had the Trigger for 5 months. Seems since I added the Golbie I started having trouble. He has the sand all clean now though! LOL i really appriciate everyones help.

Checked it again its about 40. Im gonna do a 15 gallon water change and start 10 gallon ones on thursday till i get it below 20
