need help...losing sps again

I have seen bad things happen when people spray the front of their tank with Windex or other cleaners. It could be worth thinking about what cleaners you use around your tank.

Maybe dosing some phyto could help. May give your corals something they are missing and could work to bring your PO4 up.

And I don't mean to sound like a condescending jerk, but you don't have copper pipes do you? I know you aren't dumb but sometimes people overlook the little things.

Hope you can ID the source of the problem

Might try some poly filter in case some metal is in there somehow. I'd dip one or two of the specimens to see what falls off if anything.

Just did the dip and nothing came off. Im out of poly so I will pick some up once Sandy has her way with my town....its really picking up now.

thanks for the suggestion on the phyto....I have some from TLF I can try. no copper pipes and the only thing I use to clean the glass is water and maybe a little vinegar. No one is allowed to even clean the cabinetry.....I take care of that too.

spotter are you carbon dosing? ive seen that happen to my corals. im using some zeo products (flatworm stop,k balance, coral booster) and my corals started STNing when i introduced a carbon dose. corals STNed and when i stopped the STNing went away and the corals recovered

nope...no carbon dosing. I have been looking at the zeo products but given the size of my tank that will be very expensive. The elos pro skimmer looks like it might be a good option for me.

I too have lost some sps in the last couple of months, including: acro mille, acro gemmifera, a couple other acros, 3-4 acro frags, a chalice, and a couple of branching and plating montipora. while a few other sps's do fine: abrotanoides, porites, carolina, pocillopora. my thoughts are that your tank is new and needs time to "brake in". hobby tests kits are useless in this case: example, keeping po4 above .04, when the error is +/- .04. IMO finding a "smoking gun" is rare and the problem is most likely several factors. in my case i believe it was several factors. i found some montipora eating nudibranches, my no3 spiked to 5 ppm, tank was too new, my leds were running too bright. i also think some sps's will not thrive with leds and we must find the "right" sps's for led lit tanks.

if you dt is 315g, i will increase a bit of flow. sps sometime slime up and that land on other corals can cause that to die if not remove in time.
i got 4X6105 and 2X6095 for my 185g. even with that much flow somehow a piece of frogspawn still got on a branch of the mille tips cause about 1/4" die off overnight.(i dont slow down flow at night)

There is a possibility that your tank might have a virus infection?... there was a thread here someone had it, and he completely shut down his tank. if someone can help me find it!

possibly Vibiro shiloi, it is infectious in warm temps.

What is your pH? Do you run a calcium reactor? It may be advantageous to figure your dissolved CO2.

What salt do you use and when was the last time you did a water change? Did you recently start using a new bucket?

This happened to my little tank before. It was an open top system. All my parameters were in the safe zone. I wasn't sure why things were dying overnight. Then I came to realize that the night before, my girlfriend decided to sprinkle those powder carpet air airfreshener things on the floor and vacuum everything up. The fumes and powder got into the tank and killed half of my sps over night. Lesson learned. Hope you find out what caused this.
