I saw a number of these fishes for sale at the week end They were being sold as high fin hawkfish but i am not sure they looked like basslets in the mouth and eyes the egg shaped eye. They ranged in size from 2cm to 4 cm They had an extended first couple of rays on the dorsal fins which were a cream/yellow the rest of the fin was red as was the rest of the body which also had sort of a crazy paving pattern.

I have search hawks and basslets but cant seem to find them, They come from the asia pacific region I think perhaps singapore.
they all had the destinctive high fin.

thanks if I cant get an id I may just have to buy one!

Genus Rabaulichthys; Sailfin Anthias possibly? 2cm??!! That's TEENY TINY!

all these fish were on the bottom of their holding tanks not mid water swimming
hmmm its bugging me now

Don't let that be an ID factor. Anthias, for example, often sit on the bottom of the tank when in holding/stressed.

Go back and take a pic :)

been trawlin the fish books and think I might be on to somthing

Ellerkeldia sp (seapearches)
just wondering howw common they are in the trade and prices

it's a great fish. sadly mine was just eaten a couple weeks ago. when i come home from work today i'll post a pic of the recently departed. was my favourite fish in the tank. i need to get another or maybe a small group.
