need help with flow

I seriously hate my overflow but I am one of those unlucky people who would be watching my fish flap around on the floor :D

I am a novice and I didn't take it as they were saying everyone should do it but more like it can be done...

Can it be done? Sure! Is it the smartest thing to do in this world? Absolutely not! Personally i would never chance it for a POSSIBLE result of 125 gallons of water on the floor. Do the research and youll find FAILURE as well as success stories.

how can you get hurt. a little water spills on your feet, give me a break, i am not saying it is for everyone, or the faint heart but it can be done, and all of the people out there that say it cant be done are foolish because they have never done it. experience speaks volumes, opinions are like ..............well you know the saying. all i am saying is do the reasearch before comentating on it. it is a viable solution and can be done. dont speak about responsibility if you have never been in the situation.

thanks
:D

Genius, I never disagreed to whether or not you could do it, but more to the question "why?"

Plus, let say hypothetically, someone did attempt something like this and the little water that splashed on his feet also hit the drill he was holding. Sure the GFI would pop, but not before he got a nice jolt. Or worse, there was no GFI and the circuit got to really heat up a little before it popped. I'm sure you'd take responsibility for that.

There is absolutely no reason why you should drill a filled tank.

If you want to drill a tank...follow Bill's original advice and "step" the sumps. I did this with my fuge into my sump under 125. You just need to drill a hole in one ten gall, as high as you can and then throw in a bulkhead with a screen on the inside and a 90 with a small piece of vinyl tubing on the other. I actually did this under my 55 also. I had pictures of this at one point, i will see if i can find them.

This is the way i did it under my 55. I split the return to go to the sump and fuge and then the fuge naturally overflowed via a drilled hole with bulkhead in the back.

When i did it with the 125, i had two overflow pipes, so one went into the fuge which overflowed into the sump, and the other obviously went directly into the sump. I will keep looking for the pics of that setup for ya.

sorry, no go on those other pics but feel free to ask away if you have any questions. And if you get the opp. for Bill to take a look, I'd take advantage of that. Let us know.

Bill and ray are master plumbers! They plumbed Lonnies tank which was well documented somewhere along the lines.

They're beyond belief. If you need the link to the thread, just let me know.
