what would make a nice big bright rock full of zoanthids just over night melt and disappear.I just came home one day and was feeding and look at this group of coral and they were closed up then the next day there was a big bear sport in the middle of the rock. now it has spread to more of the rock just over night.

The tank is five months old the water has has been Texting out fine. I will.test it today when.I.get home. But as of.last.week it was good. WhaT all do you need.to.know.. sorry about.the.bad post trying.to use my phone

Hi Brad,

Well, all of the params would be good, including alk and pH. Also what you're system is; volume, sump, skimmer, lights etc. Are you dosing anything? Can you get some pics?

I've had zoos melt away due to low alk and poor lighting before. Overnight would lead me to believe that its either something really bad in the water or some sort of predator. But I'm no expert.

Thanks I.have a 6 bulb t5 the tank is a 120 with 20gal refuge. And a 30gal dump with. Xp2000 skimmer. The temp of the tank holds right 78.8 to 79.0. I am thinking the all. Was 450 but I will text when I get home. All my other coral are doing fine. And the frag I make a month of this same one is doing week..
The stalks. Kind of dis color. To a light drown and then melt. I am thinking some kind of bug or fungus.

ok here we go, have aquitaclife 6 bulb t5, reef octopus xp2000 skimmer, temp is 77.4,
alk is 3.7 ca is 490 mag is 1410 just tested them all with a salifert test kits, ph looks like 7.8 maybe 8.0 no2 is 0 no3 is 0. thats all i have for now.. its a 120gal tank with sump and refuge.

Have they always been in a 0 nitrate environment or was that something that changed in the last couple months/weeks? They like their water a little dirty. Could have ran out of stored energy and be finally starving to death from lack of nutrients?? Just a theory though.

Barring that wild theory, you probably need to give them a super-close inspection and maybe prepare for some dips like iodine or furan-2. Furan-2 did wonders for a fungus infected zoa colony of mine. Sponge on the rock even survived.

Would a fresh water dip help anything? Till I can find the right dip. I have frayed this coral about 10 times as it is a big rock covered and all.the drags are growing well.. I want to retest my n02 no3 I just. Used a quick dip test strip
