need help with Monti cap

I have a yellow monti cap that has a growing patch of missing tissue. Right now there is a quarter sized area of white near the bottom. I dont see any evidence of preditation from just taking it out of the tank and looking at it. I tested some water parms today here is what I got.

Temp=76.9
ph= 7.85(aqua controller/brand new probe/just calibrated last night)
salinity=35ppt(sybon refract/verified at last CMAS meeting)
calcium=425(salifert)
P04= no detection(salifert)
MG=1260(salifert)
alk=3.2 meq/l (salifert)
N03=1ppm (salifert)


There has been some major changes recently in my tank. I installed Icecap T5 retro over tank. I currently have it 10" from surface to keep the intensity down. It did fade the coloration of coral a bit but it was still growing. I have also been adding Fuge/changing skimmer/ adding other corals. I have a frag of Monti cap that does not seem affected. Should I try to save what I can by breaking him up.

yeah, I hate to say it but a pic would help.
I'm just guessing here but I had a problem with a cap a couple of months ago, sounds similar to what you have, and it ended up being an infection in the coral. I used lugols Iodine and dabed the infected area w/ a q-tip and it cleared up. Just a guess.
I'd also try to raise your pH towards 8.0 -8.2. 8.4 is perfectly safe.

what's your flow in the tank? What type of light are you running?

Did you recently mount it?

I had the same issue when I mounted mine with epoxy. the force from
pushing is into place killed a qtr size area at the botttom,But it grew back within 6 weeks.

o no!! an attack of RTN!!! how long has it been there? if i was you i would try to remove the area with the rapid tissue necrosis and see if the colony survives. also, keep any other montiporas away from it so it doesnt spread. good luck!! also check for eggs of little bugs that sometimes eat the corals. a wrasse in the halicores might help if thats the problem.
