First off.. my daughter broke my camera 2 days ago.. so I can't post pics, but I will explain best I can :)

I bought a Diamond Goby last night and all seemed well. He enjoyed (lol) attacking his reflection and then made himself at home in my late Dusky Jawfish burrow.. once in there.. he started going crazy with the sand lol no problems.. now today.. it seems he has burrowed himself under the rock.. ??? :headwallblue: he has covered the opening with sand.. and hasn't made any new openings! and yes.. I can see every side of the rock! so weird!! lol Is this normal behavior?? should I undig him?? I know he is alive.. because he's still throwing sand around and I can see him here & there in some of the tiny holes through the rock..
Is he content? do I give him more time? or do I go in on a rescue operation??

Thanks so much!!:hmm3:

I would say as long as there is no danger of the rock falling down on top of him I would let him be. He will be able to dig himself back out, IMO.

i would say its normal. i have had a goby go under the sand for almost a week and than come out for food.

okay.. & yes.. I have pvc (I think thats what its called?) piping (about 2in) on 3 sides of the rock.. no way it will fall on him ;)

Phew.. thanks for the feedback.. I was getting a bit stressed..:hammer:

This is normal behavior. Even after it settles down, it will do this every night. They also seem to learn when the lights are about to turn off and would burrow themselves just about 10 minutes ahead. The fish would completely cover the entry and then high speed force itself into it. I was very surprise to see this behavior at first. :)

When I first introduced my diamond goby it was MIA for almost 2 weeks. Thought it was dead for sure then one day it was out and about cleaning sand.

So my little Buddy popped his head out today
I dropped a couple pellets down for him.. he ate them.. then closed up the burrow hole again within seconds!!! hahhaahahh tooooo funny :)

THANKS AGAIN ALL FOR HELPING CALM MY NERVES!!
looks like all is going to be well !! :bounce3:

I have had one in my 125 for over a year now, every once in a while he will disappear for a week or two and I'll think he has perished but he always pops out again! I call him DumpTruck cos he moves so much sand around the tank :)

Totally normal! Mine covers his rock openings every night before bed. There was a time a few months back, where he didn't come out for almost 5 whole days! I lifted his rock, sure he was dead, & there he was just sitting there! Not sure why, maybe it was the flu that kept him laid up....haha.

Does your goby go to bed really early? Mine sifts all day, and hits the sack 2 hours before everyone, like clockwork.

your goby was making sure you still loved him!! :lol2:
previous posters have said that their goby goes to bed earlier than everyone else in the tank.. can't comment on mine yet since he still is holding himself hostage under the rock lol
but atleast I got to see him & feed him for a few secs today!! ;)
