I have a gen 2 vortec and I changed the setting on the driver pad to three different settings. For one I have a half inch acrylic and the vibration is terrible. I have tried to tweek the wet side gets a little better but still vibrates the entire tank. The pad is on the driver. I need some advice its loud.

sure you got all the air out of the wetside? specifically, if you get air trapped in the piece that covers the magnet it'll make a hell of a racket..

Defintly no air on the wet side the pin alignment is set to second position and I can hear the vortec from 20 feet away. Looship sending you a pm.

According to the manual 1/2 thick is the second closest setting. I got one other opinion from a freind and he seems to think its the bearing but i will see when i go to loose hips house and try it on his tank. Hopefully its user error.

Keep in mind that they are a sponsor here and have their own forum on RC so you can start a thread and get fast results. they're CS seems to be really great.

So my friend Scott hoosierdaddy stopped by to check my vortec and he said the vibration and noise is totally normal. The room that the tank is in is empty and has hard wood floors so its that much louder. Then I fired up my return pump and that's all you can hear. I guess u expected a quiet pump I was wrong but I like it.

Got your message, glad you got it figured out! pretty soon you won't even notice the noise :)... These are really awesome pumps, and if you do have any issues there customer service is top notch!

I must be deaf. I can't hear mine at all. The Mag18 in the sump makes more noise than the Vortechs.

how loud are you talking phil? you have heard mine, i cant even notice them unless they are ramping up to full power... and all my other pumps are in the basement.. my hood fans are way louder!

what model did you get? and what size tank are you running it on?

yeah, they're the only thing making noise of any sort on the main level of my house i can hear them from just about anywhere. the blessing/curse of a basement fish room i guess :).
