Need Ich Advice....how to proceed

All my frags are dipped in CoralRX, regardless of where they come from.

Well, there goes that theory...

It really sucks that we have to QT everything from a coral frag to a hermit crab. I feel your pain, man. My DT has been fallow for almost 2 months now due to a Flukes outbreak. I feel your pain...

nothing. No qt, no meds, just added a uv sterilizer after about a week of him looking like this. It took about two weeks for him to finally fight this off and get better. In that time, he pretty much parked himself in front of a koralia. He continued to eat like a pig and swim normal. There were about 9 or 10 other fish in the tank with him and none came down with it either. This was almost 3 years and 2 tank upgrades ago. No other outbreaks have occurred despite the stress induced from the upgrades.

This is why i advocate a "wait and see" approach rather than the "yank and medicate" approach so many around here advocate.

I don't think my experience is all that unique.

i think you got lucky, uv only kills free floating ich and any ich thats on the fish will not come off without meds or low salinty imo

I didn't claim that UV did anything, I just said that I added it a week into the problem.

Luck may have some part in it, but I really don't think so. I think there is a lot about this parasite that is not known and most info you read here on RC is pure speculation. My experience is my experience. I think that many others have had similars ones to mine.

The truth is that a fish that has ich is not sentenced to die. Many contributing factors will determine how a fish handles it. I think that the stress factor plays a HUGE part in a fish's survival. That's why I don't advocate chasing a sick fish around in order to yank him out of his home. Keep your water params pristine and your tank stress free and I think your fish stand a very good chance at survival. You must admit that if any fish should have died from ich, it was this one. Yet he swims on.

I actually found it quite easy to catch the fish. No serious chasing necessary. If you're patient, you can do it. About 2 hours after lights out flip your actinics on. The fish are disoriented and can be scooped up like they're in a jar. I averaged one per night. My yellow tang gave me the most trouble. If I didn't catch the fish within a minute or so I tried again the next night. Chasing them around in the middle of the day when they're aware of every little thing is sure to stress them out.

What size uv do you add?
