I upgraded my 25gal which have been running for over a year to a 45gal, Mainly to be able to give more space for the yellow striped maroon clown pair and add an anemone for them to host on.

The current lighting I have is 1x175W MH and 2x55w actinic PC, the tank dimensions are 36x13x24 (inches). My questions are....

1) what kind of anemone can I have BTA/LTA/carpet or sebae so I won't be pushing my luck to keep them alive and would be a better host for maroons?

2) Since the substrate (3") and live rck came straight form the previous 25gal, can I add the anemone right away or do I need to wait a while, if I need to wait How long do I need to wait?

3) Is the lighting enough or do I need to upgrade?

4) I don;t have a chiller in the tank and the temp goes to about 83 when lights on and 80 when off.... is this too high and is the fluctuation high as well?

and finally 5) I have 3 maxijets 1200 on a wave maker in the tank, is that too much too little water movement?

the skimmer is AquaC hangback and no other fish in the tank.
Any info is appreciated. Tks.

Your best bet in your circumstance is to get a BTA. Not only is this species usually easier in general, it is also the anemone of choice for maroon clownfish. The lighting you have is fine for any of the species you listed, but as I said, BTA is best in your case.

I would give it at least several weeks to re-stabilize

Your temp and the fluctuation is fine.

Water motion is fine, but be sure to cover all intakes or you risk your anemone being caught and mutilated.

So few weeks ago I went and bought one, it moved around for a coupleof days and settled in the top of the rocks and stayed there..... After reading a bit I realise it needs to be fed silverslides... How much and how often do I feed it? it is about 8" (disc size), Would overfeeding cause any health issues.... tks in advance....

Also, are there any tricks to getting the bubble on their tips back? Seem to have lost it.....

if the silverslide is to big, it will have a hard time getting it its mouth, and could also re gurgitate it later. (this can also happen if you feed it to often)

i guess the rule of thumb is no bigger than the anemones mouth... thats not easy to tell right away though. id go with 1/3 of a silverslide, defrosted in tank water.

the bubble thing... well.. yours do look really long and thin right now, whitch meand its reaching for food. after its fed they may puff up a bit, but i wouldent expect super bubbly tips. some have em, some lose em. :)

bta. nice bta and maroon!! looks alot like mine (pink tips and all)

Nice looking fish and BTA there.... Thanks for the suggestions.....
The maroon pair is under the BTA... they didn't wanna pose... but the female does get real aggressive if I put my hand near the BTA......

Here is the pair in the 25gal when I got them a few months ago. Before the move to the 45...

hello,
i'm considering a maroon clown and was searching for an anenome for it.
this is my first tank, and only 20 gallons. is it big enough for clowns and a BTA? i've heard that you need to get two clowns and HAVE to have an anenome? is this true?
also, should i introduce the anenome first or after the clown.
is the BTA hard to take care of?

Doesn't have to be fed silversides. You can feed it any fresh marine fish, or scallops, mussels, shrimp, etc. I fed BTA's for years with chopped shrimp soaked in a little Selcon and they thrived. Key point here is not to OVERfeed. I think people see a big anemone and they want to feed it a 3" piece of fish. Better to feed it small bits the size of a pencil eraser that it can digest completely rather than larger pieces that it regurgitates.

I agree with bonsai nut, I had a BTA that was about 12" across and I fed it one time a piece of fish that was to big. The nem ate it and has been recovering for weeks. It bleached and shrunk to about half the size it originally was. It has just started to get it's color back. I don't spot feed anymore and the other 13 I have in the tank are getting huge just off of the Cyclop-Eeze I feed the tank with now.
