any one got any and is it really reefsafe................... i know some fishes are hit and miss but want to make sure because if he goes in......... i doubt i can get him out. Anyone with experiences? My LFS has them about 3/4" long.

thanks

They are cryptic. I had one for a few years a while back. I bought it and put him in my 90 gallon and thought it died. About 6 months later it popped up. It would move from cave to cave, I would have to really look hard to find him. Was easy to care for and didn't bother any critters or corals. They stay small.

nice.................what does he really eat. Good thing is people who come to the LFS hardly know they are there cause they are so small and they blend in. I only knew they were here cause i was there when the shipment of fish came in.
think i'll go get him.................:bounce2:

the only fish that might bother him is maybe the royal gramma. Was even thinking about a Potters leopard wrasse but i was sceptical............

Mine ate everything. I never saw him eat the 1st 6 months, cause I couldn't ever find him and I really looked hard. Mine was in with a large Royal Gramma and was fine. Royal Gramma's are more bark than bite. They'll open their mouths, but just to scare others away. You'll be fine. Ask to see the hawk eat at the LFS, which I do with any fish.

Well, its over a wk and my hawkfish is doing great (knock-on-wood)
I hardly see him because he gets lost in my 200+ gal reef. He's less than 3/4". He's really a nice fish that just perches on rocks and looks out the tank. You really have to look for him because he doesnt swim around much.

I really like this fish. Always creeping around in the background, watching from a hiding place. They are easily overlooked and cryptic, but once you get to know them and know their preferred places you should be able to find them even in a big tank. They are definitely reef safe, their max size is smaller than a full grown cleaner shrimp.

yup, we now know where he stays so we find him kind of easily.

I put one in my 400 gallon reef january of 2011.... never saw it again until January of 2012 I spotted him. I had to go look up what it was, I had forgotten I had even purchased it! they are definitly cryptic!

^^^^^^^ wow................................ even though i hardly see him, i really enjoy him. Some people might not understand why i have a fish that i hardly ever see, but they will never understand. Its the small stuff on the rocks and fish i like to see up close. I watch my coral, rocks and fish with my portal :-)
