Hey scuba pals,

I'm taking a one week vacation in Key West and would like to due some snorkling and diving. The group I'm with consists of both beginner level and experianced divers. We will be renting a boat for a week down there and I would appreciate a heads up on any areas that would be great visuals for reef and tropicals fish. I'm very familiar with diving centeral florida east coast (30 years) reefs and even middle keys but it will be a first for the KW.

Check out Fury (Furykeywest.com) We went snorkling with them. They took us out to the reef. Almost everyone on teh boat where beginners, and the crew makes sure you are safe and have a good time. We did the rum and raggie tour.

When we went to Key West, we also went on Fury for snorkeling. At the time, my wife wasn't ready to dive yet, so we snorkeled instead.

If you are a diver, I'd stay away from Fury though. It is just way too crowded! If someone wants to snorkel, then Fury is fine.

I really wish I could have gotten some dives in when I was there though, because it is unlikely I'll ever go back. Key West was not what I thought it would be. :sad1:

key west is actually the worst key for diving. The closets reef is about 5 miles out near the light house. The reef surrounds it. Great diving there though. But this is also where everyone else for example the tours go. Since it is the closets reef. There are a couple good wreck dives. When you get there they will have a map of the sites.
